For the first time after a long time the buttons showing running applications on the lower panel disappeared and I can add only the application switcher icon. How do I get back my buttons???

For the first time after a long time the buttons showing running applications on the lower panel disappeared and I can add only the application switcher icon. How do I get back my buttons???

It is simply no longer good enough to make such an assumption. As for "ask any new user which desktop will choose when installation is done" I'm not certain what you mean by that. I have certainly always installed KDE at install time, and sometimes only KDE.

The fact remains, that if you want help you should cooperate, and you, after all, were only asked to state more detail in your request.

I got help from Andrew (as many times before) and frankly speaking I don't understand why all this thread is increasing.....the details were requested long after problem had been solved, strange???

Also, I prefer kde applications for some things and gnome applications for other things - and that varies from one distro and version to another. Of course at the moment KDE is in a very difficult position. It has to get out into the wider public for testing - a bit like rawhide :-) - yet it's still very much a work in progress. At the moment there are going to be a lot of complaints, mostly because it's not clear which things are gone for ever and which things are merely 'not quite there yet'. I do talk to several KDE developers, and am quite happy to ask them questions like that - once I'm back from my holiday :-) I may not see any reply to this, as I've just signed off for a couple of weeks.
