one inconvenience: I'm runnning baikal to sync calendars, etc. between thunderbird and
my android smartphone.

baikal currently doesn't support php 7.3.x (only 7.2.x) !
There are some info's in the wild that workaround's being in worked on (not tested
so far: a VM with F29 serves my F30 Thunderbird since yesterday)
Questions, esp. to the php experts:

1. Is it feasibility to temporally "downgrade" ( e.g. F29 packages) to php 7.2
*without* breaking my really smooth running F30 ???
my box is a workstation running httpd only to sync between box/smartphone, so I guess
nothing really special
2. any hints ?

That looks like nearly abandoned software. The page says 5.5, but I see
there was a change in the repo to support 7.2. Have you tried running
it on 7.3?

You might want to take a look at "radicale" which is included in Fedora.

You might want to take a look at "radicale" which is included in Fedora.
...and FWIW, I run it too and I'm a proven packager, so if it blows up
I'm quite likely to fix it...:P

sure, just tested it during you wrote your answer, but there is something I need to learn,
e.g. how to connect my android with DAVx⁵ (formerly davdroid) and to understand
DAVx⁵'s debug logs.
there are some howto's in the wild, but all related to davdroid..., tomorrow more
searching ..

Can't you use whatever you were using with baikal, since it's the same
protocol?

short answer: NO
I tried that in my short tests.
I see in the http logs that my android tries to connect but it doesn't.
for baikal URL looks like this:
http://192.168.100.20/baikal/dav.php/ron/
for radicale URL should be:
http://192.168.100.20:5232/ron/
with/without port number according to this
https://a3nm.net/blog/davdroid.html
- nearly at the end => 9. Configure DAVdroid -
port 5232 is open in my firewall
there is something up I didn't get so far.

maybe it gets mixed with the still running, but not syncing, baikal...

Did you follow the setup instructions? https://radicale.org/tutorial/
and https://radicale.org/setup/ but don't use pip like it suggests, you
should have everything you need already installed. By default, it only
listens on localhost. Try running "sudo lsof -i tcp:5232" to see what's
listening on that port and which interfaces.

You definitely shouldn't still have baikal running.
P.S. Despite that you're using F30, this is now a discussion that should
be on the users list as it's more about figuring out the application
than testing Fedora.
