Insufficient information here to comment. What application are you
using, how did you select "helvetica"? Screenshots are also extremely
useful for "font is ugly" bugs.

Its using the helvetica fonts that come with xorg, i.e., the font.conf
in /etc/fonts/font.conf
I have installed a different helvetica font and want to make that
<family> the default font for helvetica.
