Fedora Insight: Remaining items
by Pascal Calarco
Hi all --
Simon made excellent progress on Monday resolving most of the errors on
publictest6 for Fedora Insight. Xinhua works nicely and I am able to
submit, decision, and publish articles with the workflow we designed for
FWN.
However, we are not ready to launch yet. We still need to cluster
individual FWN beats into a single issue. When I publish items, they
aren't showing up on the interface yet, as the design needs to get
synched with the templates that we worked on at FUDCon. There are a
number of design tickets open that Mo was working on. Diana made good
progress on some of these, and we should get the detail for these
tickets updated, but there are a number of tickets that we need Mo or
someone else on the design team to document and work on.
We also did not quite get to the staging server, AFAIK.
Perhaps we could meet on IRC sometime later this week to discuss
further? Thanks!

Thanks for the catch, David - and for the edit, Paul. Copying the
Marketing list on this.
The Talking Points that the Marketing team produces for our release
deliverables are talking points for the Desktop (GNOME) Spin.
However, the reason we're writing howtos/SOPs[0] for each of the
Marketing deliverables our team produces is precisely so that individual
projects (including Spins) can easily make their own versions of our
deliverables. It's my hope that we'll see talking points, one-page
release notes, etc. made by multiple Spin teams for F13, and we'll do
everything we can to make it easy for those teams to do so, in the
spirit of making tools available so that people can more readily scratch
their own itches.
Suggestions/feedback welcome - the first step is getting the howtos up
and written, which will be done by Alpha; they'll be announced to the
Marketing mailing list as well as posted on
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Marketing_HOWTO as they are
completed, if you'd like to add that page to your watchlist.

Distributions: No winter break in Linux land
*With Fedora 12 and Ubuntu 9.10 now out the door, developers are already
turning their attention to the spring releases. KDE3 has definitively
gone the way of the dodo as far as openSUSE and Mandriva are concerned.
Google is taking its first steps in the operating system market with

Following on from Fedora – always something of a pioneer amongst Linux
distributions – Ubuntu is also now planning to merge open source Nvidia

Elections are also taking place at Fedora, for the Fedora Board
<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Board/Elections/Nominations>, Fedora
Engineering Steering Committee (FESCo) and the Fedora Ambassadors
Steering Committee (FAmSCo).
A name for Fedora 13 has now been chosen; the next release, scheduled
for the 27th of April, 2010, will be called Goddard (after scientist
Robert H. Goddard). Traditionally the new name always has a connection
with the old, the link here being rocket science.

Hi Everyone,
The elections for the Fedora Board, Fedora Engineering Steering

created and are due to start at 0000 UTC on 5th December 2009 and are
scheduled to run until 2359 UTC on 15th December 2009.
All groups have chosen to use the Range Voting method
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Range_voting).

used the voting system, please refer to the Fedora Elections Guide,

**** Please Note ****
There will be a Fedora Infrastructure outage during the voting period that
may effect the voting application, as a result we have brought the voting
start date forward to the 5th December instead of the 8th December.
As announced by Paul Frields in the event of extended outage, we will as
appropriate extend the voting period.
We have also implemented a new feature in our voting software, so users
can verify their votes. Vote verification can be done at:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/voting/verify
You will be prompted for your Fedora Account System username and password
and a list of elections where votes have been recorded will be listed.

I'd also like to point out the following from Paul Frields' announcement
for the June 2008 Board Election:
"I'd like everyone voting to remember that this isn't a popularity
contest, or a reward system. Think about how you'd like to Board to look
when you vote, the same way you think about how you'd like any
government body to look when you cast votes for their elections. We have
a lot of worthy candidates on this list, and you should pick the ones
that you feel will best represent you in advancing the Fedora Project.
This is one of numerous ways in which our community makes decisions
about the leadership of Fedora. Your vote counts, and I hope you take
advantage of it."
***
This advice is still valid, not just for the Fedora Board election but
for all three elections.
Thanks also go to John Rose and other volunteers who have helped with
organising and running Town Hall meetings for these elections.
Regards,
Nigel Jones

Post FUDCon Survey
by Yaakov Nemoy
Hey List,
Has there been some thought given to doing a post FUDCon survey like we've done in the past? I asked Mel about this, but she wasn't sure what the status of implementing some survey software was.
If possible, i would like to be able to run a small survey (<5 questions) about Fedora Live after FUDCon so we can see where it was most effective and where it fell flat.
Cheers,
Yaakov

Marketing FAD 2010 - First Brainstorm
by wonderer
Hy there,
short after todays marketing meeting some came with an the idea that are
crawling around some heads for quite a while: We want to have a
Marketing FAD!
Theme: Fedora Marketing - What is, what will be
* build up our "new" marketing plan for F13 / F14 and work on that
* work and grow our Marketing Team
* have fun
Here are some questions we start to work on:
* Where do we want to have it (location)?
* when (date) ?
* who (attendees) ?
* work schedule (plan) ?
A first throw-in I would say "how about hawaii, first march week 2010,
some hotel around".
For all other things around we have also a wikipage [1] for filling with
suggestions and facts.
Please have a look, add your name to the list if you are interressted or
already say "YES, I want to be there" because
we must know your preferences to plan further on.

[In the news] Distro Review: Fedora 12
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
http://danlynch.org/blog/2009/12/f12/
"Fedora advocates always point to the fact that it often has new
innovations before other distros. The developers work really hard on
this and I think they see themselves as trail blazers in a way. They
push a lot of their work back upstream and that’s how it ends up in so
many other distributions. That’s something they really should be
commended for. A good example is the Pulse Audio mixer, which I first
saw in Fedora 11. I then heard from many people what a great new
development it was 6 months later when it turned up in Ubuntu. This is
not a dig at the Ubuntu developers who also do great work, but to me
Fedora feels closer to the upstream projects."
