#126: Create a wiki page for magazine covermount information
Reporter: pfrields | Owner:
Type: task | Status: new
Priority: major | Milestone: F14a: Pre-alpha
Component: other | Severity: urgent
We often get inquiries from magazines asking for permission to bundle one
or more Fedora discs with a future issue. This is a fairly routine
process as long as the disc is an unmodified copy of Fedora media (i.e. an
official release). Some interaction with Red Hat Legal is required to
send out an agreement to the magazine.
We can speed up that interaction and the overall process if we have a page
that tells magazines what they need to provide, and to whom, for a
covermount agreement. Generally we need the following information, sent
to the ''press(a)fp.o'' address:
* The name (d/b/a) and address of the company producing the magazine
* The exact disc(s) that are to be bundled
* Contact information for the person making the request

I had suggested this earlier to Robyn -- a press blog entry for Red Hat's
PR channel (http://press.redhat.com) that would synopsize and point to our
interview on the wiki. However, Robyn's pretty busy right now. Kara
Schiltz from Red Hat's PR department is willing to publish something next
I'm going to pick this up and drive it forward, my way of helping this
week on something Marketing related!

"From a user’s perspective:
It is the next best thing after Ubuntu. If it wasn’t for the missing
Ubuntu Community, Software Center and annoying Yum it would be the
Ubuntu killer. While Fedora also has a community it is hardly as badass
and big as the Ubuntu one.
With Fedora you are getting GNOME 3. No GNOME 2 anymore. With the
introduction of GNOME 3 comes a whole new UX needs some getting used
to. However after using it for 2 or 3 days its hard to go back to a
GNOME 2 environment. Its a solid distro. I experienced no crashes or
hick-ups. With some googling and help from Fedora users and developers I
managed to install everything I needed"

"Comparing to Fedora, Fusion Linux is a clear winner, as it only builds
upon the existing without taking away. The only visible downside is the
increased memory consumption, but it's nothing drastic. However, if you
pit Fusion against other leading distros, there's a bit of a problem.
While they offer similar or longer-term support, they have none of the
crashes and instability packaged into Fusion. This could deter potential

I am Haowei.Lee,Chinese ambassador and chief administrator of Fedora
Chinese community. Now I am responsible for our Fedora Chinese
site(www.fedora-zh.org). I am paying effort to promote our Fedora
Chinese User Group and our site for promotion of Fedora in our China.
These days, as I have seen there are more and more Chinese people
keeping focusing on the launching of Fedora 15, I also found that there
are so many people who focusing on Fedora also keep active on Chinese
twitter of Sina.com. That is why I went to register an account for our
Local Chinese twitter on Sina.com has gathered more than millions of
Chinese people from different kinds of fields. It is the most famous
Chinese local twitter site. Everyone here could go to see that site with
Now, the problem I met is that I need to show one document or a
introduction letter to verification Dept.of Sina twitter that our Fedora
Chinese User Group and our site is under the lead of official Fedora
project(say in another way is that we are a official group of Chinese
support maintain). By this, we can pass their verification and get the
symbol "V" on our Sina twitter account which means that this Sina
twitter account had been confirmed by Sina official and it is true.
Additionally, the Sina twitter account with symbol "V" will attract more
fans to come and focus their news.
I am looking forward that if anyone here could help me to provide such
document to help us pass the verification of Sina twitter. Thank you
very much for helping our Fedora promotion work.
Please reply or contact me (cnblue#fedoraproject.org) ASAP if you can
help.Thanks all of you again.

"I’m not saying this to belittle Fedora — but to put this whole thing
into perspective. Arguing over branding here is /just plain silly/.
Depending on which side you’re on, it may validate your “team” (GNOME
vs. Fedora, I guess) but it’s /utterly irrelevant/ when it comes to
having an impact on Fedora adoption. At best it’s a distraction from
actually increasing the market share of Linux — and at worst it’s a
validation of the argument that community driven projects fail due to
