Self-Introduction: Yannik Stadelmaier
by Yannik Stadelmaier
Hi all!
My Name is Yannik Stadelmaier and I am 20 years old. I live in
Herrenberg near Stuttgart in the south-west of Germany and I am studying
social/cultural anthropology (stressed on "Central Eurasia", means the
region between the black sea nd southern china like Kyrgysia or Georgia)
at the University of Tuebingen. My goal in the Fedora Project is to
represent it as a Amabassador, become member of the marketing team and,
maybe in the future help by building rpm's.
In the past, i published few versions of the tux:gaming magazine, a mag
about gaming and linux, which i had to stop because of too much work and
to less contributions of others.
I would like to join the marketing team to establish something like
"People of openSuSE" ( http://en.opensuse.org/People_of_openSUSE ) for
the Fedora Project.
Greetings

Slogan for F11
by Jack Aboutboul
Hello All,
At the beta readiness meeting on Wednesday, I brought up the discussion
of us working with Art and Docs in a closer fashion. One of the things
we came up with, courtesy of mizmo was that we have yet to decide on a
slogan for F11. This is prime marketing real estate, and we have a
chance to come up with something great.
What I suggest is that we brainstorm first by coming up with some key
words and building from that. What is the message we want to convey for
this release? We already have some things which are ironclad (like the
four foundations), but lets see what we can come up with.
I threw up a quick and dirty wiki page at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/F11_Release_Slogan . I don't
know what this will end up looking like, but I figure we will have
discussion on here and that those ideas should be spelled out on the
wiki as well so we can draw from them all. Put in the key words at the
top and then use the rest as a scratch space.
The slogan really is the all-encompassing message for the release so we
need to put our thinking caps on. I'm sure Paul, et. al. will offer
some guidance, but otherwise, show me what you got.
Whats the best you've got?
Jack

Just had a shower and a funny idea.
What do you think about playing with the phrase "form follows function"
like for example "function follows freedom" or "innovation follows
freedom" or sth. like that?

GSoC marketing update
by Karsten Wade
Fortunately, Fedora made the list of mentoring organizations for this
year's Google Summer of Code[1].
For the next few weeks, final ideas are going to be posted, students
will look them over, and begin proposing projects. Mentors work with
student proposals to improve them -- get the scope and timeline well
considered, for example.
My marketeer gut says, "Get even more proposals and mentors in this
year, so even if we get fewer student slots in a rescaled GSoC, they
are the most passionate and dedicated students."
Along those lines, I asked the Ambassadors to keep on the hunt.[2]
Oh, and to consider being mentors to get some of their development
ideas completed.
Any other ideas of where else to go and who to ask?
One thing to consider -- if the student is already known within or
close to Fedora Project circles, that may increase their chance of
success. They have a higher likelihood of understanding and being
passionate about the type of projects we like to choose.[3]
Thanks and keep spreading the love.[4]

This Weekend
by Jack Aboutboul
Hey All,
We are ramping up tackling work items on the schedule as we inch ever
closer to beta. It's knocking on out door and we need to put things
into high gear. As you can see even the items on the schedule are
growing every day and we need some good folks to step up to the plate.
We can't afford to fall back now!!
Here is what could use some love in the next 2-3 days and into next Tuesday:
* If you've added anything to the F11 Schedule, please add it to the
Template schedule located here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_schedule_template
* We still gave two in depth features which have no person to cover
them. A couple of guys mentioned on Tuesday that they would be able to
pick them up. If you would please add your name to the table here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F11_in-depth_features and start working
on getting scheduling some time with people working on the feature for
next week that would be awesome and it would ensure that we are keeping
tight with the schedule.
* If you are part of the News Distribution Network, please begin
contacting press people and notifying them the beta is coming up and see
if they have any questions you can answer and have them "on tap" and ready.
* Submit pictures for the picture book. The page is here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Picture_book. Click on the image
submission link and get your upload on! Also, if you have yet to blog
about it, blog about it.
* We need to start working on the Press materials. The page can be
found here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_press_material.
Please take a look at it and find something you can work on and start
taking a look at it. We should have this hammered out in the next 2-3
weeks so that we can work with the art team on making it look pretty for GA.
Also, If you manage to accomplish anything, drop a line to the list
and/or to myself. Word is, someone is tracking whose been active and
plans on giving them some goodies!
Thanks,
Jack

Thats a good initiative. I will try my best to be there. I guess a
lot of people will be happy to help out. Anyone around Kolkata or
Kalyani who might want to give a presentation on FOSS topic can step
forward.
