I love the idea, but I am struggling with the complexity of implementation
There are multiple variations of models for manufacturers like Lenovo that make it
difficult to say 'best'.
For example: The Lenovo X1 Carbon has several models for each year. Then there are CTO
(Custom Built to Order) that confuse the situation even more.

Hi
We had earlier an HCL hw database, just we had retired long ago -
because of plenty of subversions of hw, and were a mess. Ubuntu has
preloaded laptops, desktops that they are selling - we don't have
that. Moreover every year mass of laptops and computer components are
appearing, and I think there is no chance to cover it continuously, as
we are changing Fedora either in 6 month cycle.

IMHO: there is also a large difference in audience. The Ubuntu Hardware
page is for people who might be worried that their hardware will not
work with Ubuntu. I do not think Fedora's user base is as timid.
My experience in the Computer Science Dept at the University of Illinois
is that the researchers believe Fedora is too bleeding edge and want
something current, but on slower cycle. So they prefer Ubuntu, CentOS or
previously Scientific Linux.
The Ubuntu certification page makes it easier for the researcher to
justify to their group leader that the purchase is a good decision so
they can focus on the code instead of getting wifi to work right.

Hardware support on linux is very vague as far as purchase is concerned.
Most vendors make sure hardware support is there on linux by default in the
latest kernels.
The question is more like: Fedora or linux certified laptops. Picking out
random bought laptops for a budget wont really make any sense, keeping the
customers budget in consideration.
All laptops work well with linux, except for AMD proprietary drivers.
The open source drivers are amazing though(gallium-llvmpipe) but lack user
control over the hardware.
My lenovo g5045 with an AMD 6410 works amazing ly well but the mouse
touchpad doesn't, so does my older HP G6 2005AX with and AMD A8 4500M

Yes, Glen, but that's a particular situation. The general user that, let's
say has a laptop with Fedora and decides to buy a new one might be afraid
of wasting money in a machine that won't work well with Fedora. And think
is pure common sense to research which computer/hardware work best, so if
there are articles on the topic, well that would be very useful.
