Dual boot + hibernate
by Mike Leahy
Hello list,
I'm just wondering if anyone knows a way to allow dual boot after
hibernating. I'm currently using FC6T2 on a dual boot with WinXP, and
it's working pretty well overall. However, I've noticed that if I
hibernate (using the pm-hibernate command), when I reboot I no longer
get the Grub interface that allows me to select an operating system. I
have no problem hibernating from windows and booting into linux though.
Is this an intentional feature? Is there a way to boot into the WinXP
OS anyway?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Suggestions for rescue CD
by Sherwood Botsford
***
On more occasions than not, grub has not installed correctly. I
have had to boot the rescue CD. The rescue CD does not set any
value for "MANPATH" which means that until you do so manually,
you cannot read the man pages. This is a nuisance.
I could see some merit in having the rescue CD boot a live
system. Even with a twm environment, reading "info grub" in one
window while running "vi /etc/grub.conf" in another would be very
convenient.
Because X is not always practical, one of the dialogs for the
rescue disk should be: Set up in terminal mode, or live CD mode.

I don't see that here. Could you install cups-debuginfo-1.2.2-14 and
get a backtrace please?
Thanks,

* fix signature inflation, all data attached to a signature is now
encapsulated in a SEFaultSignatureInfo (siginfo) class. The GUI no
longer reaches into a signature looking for information, it looks
in the siginfo. The Plugin class now defines the method
get_signature() which report() calls to obtain the signature. The
default signature provided by the Plugin class includes the
analysisID, an AVC with just the src & target contexts, and the
object_path. All data accesses and parameters which had been "sig
and solution" are now done via the unified siginfo class. There is
still a bit more work to be done on this but this represents a
reasonble point to checkpoint the code in CVS.

Xorg leaking memory?
by Dennis Jacobfeuerborn
Hi,
Since last week Xorg seems to leak memory for me. The usual suspect for
this is Firefox but now Xorg seems to use up big amounts of memory all by
itself:
This is what I get after running Xorg for about three days and with most
application I usually run closed:
Top:
virtual: 241m
resident: 184m
xrestop:
Pixmaps: 12387K total
Other: 67K total
All: 12455K total
This is what I get after a fresh X startup:
Top:
virtual: 73616
resident: 15m
xrestop:
Pixmaps: 11804K total
Other: 42K total
All: 11846K total
That is with xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.1.1-21.fc6.
Anybody else seeing this?
Regards,
Dennis

Archive RPMS on disk during installation.
by Sherwood Botsford
I never get it right the first time. Since computers now come
with large disks, it would be reasonable to archive the rpms as
the CD's are read. (Perhaps /usr/share/rpms/FC6-install)
By doing this, later changes to the software wouldn't require
internet access or shuffling CD's.
Yes this can be done after the fact, and indeed, that is what I
usually do, but this is a simple thing, that would help make
managment of FC easier for newbies.

FC6t2 as a VMware guest - SCSI disk not found
by Florin Andrei
Hey y'all,
I'm testing FC6t2 as a guest OS in VMware, using pretty much the default
options for storage, and the virtual hard-drive is not found
automatically by the installer. It emulates a SCSI BusLogic I don't know
which version.
However, I told it to add the BusLogic driver manually and now it's
installing the system just fine.

Save state during install for FC6
by Sherwood Botsford
Scenario: You boot from CD, you answer several screens of
questions, you start the install. 3 cd's later it borks. Back to
square 1. There is no meaningful way to pick up the pieces.
Principle: The system should become bootable as early as possible.
Principle: The state of all your decisions should be saved as
early as possible.
Ideally then if it borks on CD #3, you should be able to go away,
burn a new copy of CD#3
come back, start with #1. On startup, Anaconda sees that there is
a file in the root file system called /install-status. Pop-up:
"It appears that a previous installation failed. Would you like to:
<<*>>Try to continue the failed install.
<<*>>Start again."
