swfdec + rawhide + youtube ≅ no sound
by Martin Sourada
Well, I usually prefer the totem-youtube plugin to swfdec-mozilla in
web-browser, but sometimes it's more handy to open the video in
epiphany/midori. The thing is that it's almost always totally silent (up
until now I though that it's always silent but on one occurrence the
sound actually was there -- for one video and then disappeared again)...
I wonder if it's just some misconfiguration on my side or if it's a
known problem... Note that I can see the stream in pulse audio mixer but
even with all sliders at 100% it's completely silent. It used to work
better on F10 (at least the sound was there)...

MP-BIOS bug 8254
by Stephen Berg (Contractor)
Trying to get Fedora 11 Preview installed on a Tyan S2885 and I'm
running into this at boot time after updating from rawhide:
MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
Kernel panic - not syncing: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with
apic=debug and send a report. Then try booting with the 'noapic' option.
So far I've tried the apic=debug and noapic options with no luck. Also
tried disabling the one APIC option in BIOS (v2.08) and that also had no
effect. The system either kernel panics or just hangs with just a
blinking cursor at the top left of the screen. The first kernel that
installed from the DVD (2.6.29.1-102.fc11.x86_64) runs with no problems,
but 2.6.29.1-111.fc11.x86_64 won't boot at all.
This system has been running on Fedora Core 6 and Fedora 9 without any
issues like this at all. Never got F10 installed on it.

F11: no key repeat using vnc (vncserver)
by Ken Roser
Using vncserver on Fedora 11 (latest as of 5/5/09) and a RealVNC client
on Windows, version 4.4.3, I don't get any key repeats when keys are
held down. The same VNC client works with other vncservers on other
Fedora systems. The system is a Dell 2850. The following error found
in the vnc log probably offers a clue to the problem, but I have no idea
how to solve this. Can anyone help?

automount with nfs4 funnies
by Wolfgang S. Rupprecht
I can't seem to get automount to mount my nfs4 exports in f11-preview.
My nfs server only exports the home directories over nfs-v4. This is
something that has worked for me for years and works flawlessly between .
f10 systems. It is only broken with my f11-preview client.
exports on the server (f10):
/ 10.0.0.100(rw,fsid=0,no_root_squash,insecure,no_subtree_check)
auto.master on the clients:
/home /etc/auto.home
auto.home on the clients:
fred -fstype=nfs4,hard,intr,nodev,nosuid server:/u/&
Am I missing a new security option I should be passing or something, or
is this just broken???

g41 chipset, kernel patches and a possible solution to my problems
by Rodd Clarkson
Hey All,
As some of you are aware, I've been trying to track down why f11 doesn't
want to do 3d on my g41 chipset and it appears there's a solution in
sight.
It turns out there's a patch that went into kernel 2.6.30-rc4 that
addresses this. I (and others) would like to be able to test if these
patch works (wouldn't it be good if graphics on the g41 chipset worked
out of the box for f11) but I don't know how to get someone to build a
f11 kernel with the patch (presumably in Koji) so that we can test.
The bug in question is:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=493307
more information is here:
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21095
There is an f12 kernel with this patch, but it fails somewhere during
boot up so I can't test to see if it's solves the problem at hand.
Is someone kernel related able to assist?

Anaconda
by James W. Bennett
Another annoying thing about the anaconda installer, it insist on taking
my whole 1Terabit hardrive. I have tried over and over to install on a
smaller partition but in always takes the complete drive. Or is there
something I am doing wrong.

what does . mean? (ls command output)
by Tom Horsley
On fedora 11 preview, I just did a ls -l while sitting in the
/boot directory, and some of the files have a '.' at the end of
the permissions (some don't). Neither the man page nor the info
file for ls mention this dot that I can find. What in the blue
blazes does it mean?
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 1626054 Apr 20 15:44 System.map-2.6.29.1-102.fc11.x86_64
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1626169 Apr 24 11:08 System.map-2.6.29.1-111.fc11.x86_64
Looks kind like the above, but I got that from fedora 10, which
does *not* show the dot - I added it manually to show where it comes
out.

Fonts going funky in GTK apps
by Mary Ellen Foster
I'm using KDE on (soon-to-be)F11, and I've been noticing that
occasionally, the fonts go funky in Firefox and/or OpenOffice.Org.
It's hard to describe, but basically some characters get replaced by
screwed-up-looking box things. Generally, restarting the app in
question works.
I've attached a couple of recent screenshots showing this in action.
Is it just me? What component should I even file against?
