I just updated my f9 system today and running kdebase-4.0.5-3.fc9.i386 as my usual desktop with associated KDE4 apps.
I notice that the facility to put icons onto the desktop or onto the panel by right clicking an item in kickoff gives me a desktop icon for both of these options! So I cannot get Firefox onto the panel.
Anyone else seeing the same behaviour?

I tried to get a panel icon using the classic option and this seemed not possible. Is there a workaround for this at present, or an update on the way?

Use the new kickoff and there with the right button you have the option to add the program to favorites or to the panel. I may be wrong since I am typing this from memory as this option does not seem to be present in 4.0.80.

Exactly - unfortunately both these options in fact add to the desktop. i.e. adding to panel actually adds to desktop! So it does not work as advertised!
