Want to help pick the F14 Release Slogan?
by Robyn Bergeron
We need a slogan for the F14 release. A release slogan is a short
call-to-action that fits the artwork theme from Design, found at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F14_release_slogan#Themes. (F13's
slogan was "Rock it.")
If you are interested in suggesting ideas for the release slogan,
please take a look at the Release Slogan SOP, and the criteria for
selection, at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Release_slogan_SOP. The
slogan must be:
* short (1-3 words)
* a call to action
* positive
It should reinforce that Fedora helps the user achieve something
great. It should also reflect some of ideas and themes found in the
release artwork, and, if possible, also touch upon the Four
Foundations (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Foundations).
Please put your slogan ideas here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F14_release_slogan#New_slogan_ideas
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, August 17, at 21:00 UTC,
which is our next Marketing meeting
(https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_meetings). We'll be
discussing submissions there, and then the FPL, Mo Duffy, and the
Marketing team lead (that's me!) will take that input and select the
final slogan on Wednesday, August 18. Let me know if you have any
questions, comments, or concerns -- and let the wiki table know if you
have any ideas!
Cheers,

release slogan call to action and final selection - question?
by Robyn Bergeron
Looking at the SOP for the release slogan today - the call to action /
email template says that after next week's marketing meeting, which is
when we will go through and prune the list, there will be another
meeting / discussion with FPL, Máirín, and the marketing team lead to
"take the input and select the final slogan on _______." (See
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Release_slogan_SOP for more info.)
Mo, Jared - do you have a date / time that seems reasonable to get
together to discuss this? I think we could probably do this within a
day or less of the slogan selection / pruning meeting, which is next
Tuesday. Would next Wednesday work for a final announcement? We can
poke through the final selections Wednesday morning, if we're all
available.

MMM - Marketing Meeting Minutes. Delicious! 2010/08/10
by Robyn Bergeron
We now more or less have wrapped up the F14 talking points - they
should be completed within the next few days. (Just need a blurb from
Sugar in the Spins section.) Also, we'll be kicking off the F14
release slogan process this week, with a slogan to be chosen at next
week's meeting.

Talking points/spotlight features
by Paul W. Frields
It's that time again -- time for us to figure out the features that
we want to spend a little extra effort calling out in the next Fedora
release because they're particularly innovative or interesting. The
full explanation of talking points is found here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Talking_points_SOP
Note that talking points are *not* a comprehensive list. The list is
meant to be short and effective at sparking the interest of many
different groups. This helps show that there is something for lots of
people in Fedora. The main source for the talking points is in the
feature list:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FeatureList
Off the top of my head, I see some very compelling stuff to which we
might call people's attention:
* systemd
* EC2
* MeeGo
* Roll-up of programming tools (D, Eclipse Helios, GNUstep, debugging tools)
Things not on that list which might merit inclusion include the new
website design, underway and hopefully rolling out for F14.
I've been working on a PR schedule to assist Jared in his FPL duties,
and next week he is supposed to meet with Red Hat's Creative team.
In the near future, the team will shoot videos to help show off
spotlight features in Fedora 14. So the sooner we have talking points
included, the easier we will make their job too.
Can we start this process slightly early?

FAD at OLF
by Beth Lynn Eicher
Dear Marketing List,
I did not hear from a sole regarding holding a Fedora Activity Day at
the Ohio LinuxFest on 9/10. The deadline has come and gone. I suspect
is is out of disinterest but hope that isn't so. You do not have to
have a full agenda - just one solid point person. We do not have
unlimited space - nor is it cheap. It will be free to Fedora or what
ever Free Software project jumps on it first.
I will be on Freenode after 18:00 eastern today as bethlynn. Also any
interested parties may send me an email at bethlynn(a)ohiolinux.org.
Thanks,
Beth Lynn Eicher

[in the news]: India's Digit Magazine's Fedora 13 Review
by Jonathan Nalley
"Fedora is, and is meant to a bleeding edge distro, yet manages to be
very stable. While it may have a simple and easy install process and
interface, it doesn’t offer too much to the Linux newbie. It feels
less like an integrated distribution and more like a generic Linux
installation, which it might well be; there are few customizations
which are unique to Fedora, although this isn’t necessarily a bad
thing.
For those who have worked on Linux for a while, Fedora is a nice way
to come back to the basics, but those who are still new to the world
of Linux might find themselves fighting with basic operations such as
adding repositories – which come easily to other distributions. On the
other hand its performs remarkably well. If you do opt for Fedora be
prepared to spend some time on the CLI."
