Marketing FAD agenda - part-timers, let us know when you'll be coming!
by Mel Chua
Hullo! You're getting this email because you're either (or both):
1. on the Fedora Marketing mailing list
2. listed as a local Raleigh denizen joining us for the FAD at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_FAD_2010#Attendees
We finalized the FAD schedule yesterday, so locals can now take a look
and see when they'd like to drop by (you're welcome, of course, to stay
for the entire thing, or as much of it as you'd like - Max is doing it.
Saturday:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_FAD_2010#Day_1_.28Saturday.2C_Ma...
Sunday:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_FAD_2010#Day_2_.28Sunday.2C_Marc...
Monday:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_FAD_2010#Day_3_.28Monday.2C_Marc...
Tuesday:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_FAD_2010#Day_4_.28Tuesday.2C_Mar...
If you haven't already introduced yourselves to the Fedora Marketing
list, so the other folks coming to the FAD will know who you are, please
take a moment and email marketing(a)lists.fedoraproject.org (cc'd on this
email, so reply-all will work) with a few lines about yourself and what
you're interested in doing this weekend, what you'll be bringing to the
table, and when we might expect you to drop by (so we don't, say, eat
all the pizza before you get here. ;)
Our mailing list is here
(https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/marketing) and the
sorts of things we usually put in our introductions are here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Introduce_yourself_to_the_marketing_group
If you'd like to join the Fedora Marketing team (recommended, to get a
sense of the rhythm you'll be tapping into at the FAD), the only other
thing you need to do after sending your introduction email is creating a
FAS (Fedora) account. This will also give you wiki editing privs, which
will come in handy during the FAD. Instructions are here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Joining_the_Fedora_marketing_project#Getti...
I do believe that's all - please ask if you have any questions, and
forward to any other local folks you think might be interested in
joining us!

Jonathan Nalley: Self-Introduction
by Jonathan Nalley
My name is Jonathan Nalley and i've been actively using/working with
Fedora since Fedora 9.
I live in Greenville, SC USA. I'm a Systems Engineer in the Systems
Architecture department at NuVox: a CLEC and other IT-ish services
provider.
My goal in the project initially would be to assist Matías Kreder and
the few others helping out with the Fedora twitter account. I've
already been in touch with Matías and he's set me up with access to
the account. I'll be perusing noteworthy items from the Fedora Weekly
News, this mailing list and other sources in an effort to flagrantly
promote and evangelize Fedora to the unwashed masses as well as those
who want to stay up to date about the project.
I would be interested in other opportunities in the Marketing group as
they match my skill set and as my time permits.
I currently run the social media outreach for the Southeast Linuxfest
(southeastlinuxfest.org) and i've been using Twitter since December
2006.

Marketing FAD housing booked, budget closed
by Mel Chua
For those attending the FAD who do not normally reside in Raleigh: See
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_FAD_2010#Housing.
We will be staying at:
Best Western Cary Inn And Extended Stay
1722 Walnut Street
Cary, NC 27511 US
It's a pretty comfy-looking place; I just checked out the rooms and am
now sitting in the lobby right now trying to recognize the classical
music they have piping in over the floral-patterned stuffed armchairs.
They have breakfast, wifi, fitness center, yada yada yada... and it's 5
miles from the Red Hat office, which makes our commute absolutely lovely.
Four nonsmoking double rooms have been booked, see roommate pairings
below. The room was booked under the name of the roommate I thought was
likely to arrive first.
In other news...
$1622.54 planefare
$1270.32 housing
$118.00 other
------------------
$3010.86 total out of ~$3k budget
...we are now done with budget. YAY! (Well, I get to file receipts, and
Max gets to approve them, but y'all are set.)

FAD schedule and to-do prep list: put it here!
by Mel Chua
As per Ryan's excellent email the other day reminding us that we need to
get our FAD agenda in order, I've braindumped some sample
schedules/deliverables into each of the 4 days of our FAD schedule.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_FAD_2010#Agenda
They're all strawmen, so feel free to edit/delete/revise/critique as you
will, the final schedule will be ultimately set by each day's owner. One
part that's missing from each is "what prep would we need to do before
now and March 13 in order to be able to have this schedule at the FAD?"
Tuesday's meeting is going to set our schedule and our to-prep list, so
get those ideas going (here and/or on the wiki page)!
--Mel
PS: Those of you working on projects, think about how the FAD can move
them forward - find the day you think your project fits best into, and
put your project in a space in that schedule and describe what you want
us to use the time for - basically, convince the FAD day owner to
incorporate it into the schedule. ;)
