I recently started a discussion on the EPEL list about handling packages with multiple version. A few already exist, but it seems more are on their way. There, in my eyes or from what I've gathered, seem to be few clear thoughts on the best way to handle this.
One of the suggestions was to ask this list's thoughts on the matter, especially the concept of 'conflict' packages.

I don't think anything in that thread inclines me to change the Fedora Conflicts Guidelines but I could see EPEL making exceptions to the Conflicts rules that Fedora does not. I'll reply with more detail to the epel thread.
