Hello all,
is there any reason why the PlayOnLinux is not in Fedora repository? I know that they have database of proprietary stuff but they don't download that and you can't purchase anything with the PoL.
If there is no reason I will be happy to package this one.
Thank you for the answers, Jirka Konecny

I do not see reason why it should be a priory rejected. Go on and submit package review. :)

I suspect there may be a fair amount of work getting it to use the system version of wine. But maybe not.
I don't think so, the default behavior is to offer system or their custom builds. I would have to check when I get home, but the default radio setting should be system wine when creating a new prefix/drive.

Maybe I have found the reason why this is not packaged already. Could it be because it downloads Windows redistributable in few clicks? Can you please confirm if this is the issue?

If that's *all* it does, that's not okay. If it does it automatically*, also not okay. And if it needs to do that to be functional, also not okay.

No, that's not all it does nor will it do it automatically. One needs to instruct it to do non free things for those things to occur.
PoL is a wine frontend with script capabilities similar to Crossover's CrossTies for automated dependency handling for getting apps/games working simply.
Thank you for better explanation Andrew. Am I understand it correctly this is issue which prevents the it to be a package in Fedora? Even when the user must explicitly instruct PoL to download and install such thing? On Mon, 2015-10-12 at 14:44 -0500, Andrew Schott wrote:

Not sure why. I hold no authority here, just another user who lurks gaining knowledge in packaging :)
For the last ... God knows how long ... I have been using their repo for my RHEL & CentOS installs just fine. It would be nice though to have it more readily available without adding another repo.
I figured I would chime in on what the software does as I use and rely on it. The code is FLOSS, not sure offhand the license, and will do non free things if told to, but only when told to (explicitly or via a script)
