I installed the JPackage java-1.4.2-sun-1.4.2.06 RPM, and now many of the Java sites that I visit crash Firefox. I am using firefox-1.0-2.fc3.
Running from the command line shows the following.
[mjs@vincent52 ~]$ firefox *** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x081d3ff0 ***
An example site that illustrates the failure:
http://www.princeton.edu/~rvdb/JAVA/pivot/simple.html
Not every applet causes the failure. For example, a non-interactive applet at
http://www.princeton.edu/~rvdb/
loads and runs with no problem.
Anyone else experiencing this? How can I get more information to isolate whether this is a Firefox or Java issue?

Matthew,
I have just installed jre-1_5_0_01-linux-i586-rpm.bin (downloaded from the Sun Java website) directly and do not experience your problems. I am also using firefox-1.0.2.fc3.

So upgrading to JPackage's java-1.5.0-sun solves the problem as well. Wonder how Eclipse will work with Java 1.5.0...
As a side effect, I have a spec file to build java-1.5.0 with Sun's jdk-1_5_0_01-linux-i586.bin, if anyone wants it.

I would like to have it.
