KGpg "An error occurred while scanning your keyring"

This error pops up whenever my system boots up. Clicking on [Details <<] produces a message box with the single entry "Details" in it. What's happening? Thanks - jon

ESC/P thermal receipt printers and Linux...

Running dmesg after plugging my POS-5890K labelled usb thermal receipt printer, it identifies itself as full-speed USB device number 9 using ehci-pci idVendor=0416, idProduct=5011 Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 Product: POS58 USB Printer Manufacturer: GD32 Microelectronics SerialNumber: Printer I found the hard way that these printers are not supported by CUPS by default ... one has to go the extra length to either send esc/p codes manually via your own app http://kg4zqz.blogspot.com/2016/08/escposf-thermal-printer-filter-and.html ...or compile a driver from source, just like 20 years ago for some printers... maybe 2018 will be the year of desktop linux *sarcasm* I've tried this driver and it didn't work... http://scruss.com/blog/2015/07/12/thermal-printer-driver-for-cups-linux-and… (the driver source was fetched by git from its current github repo, so it's not out of date, it's in fact newer than the above blog post) What gives more clues is the small piece of thermal paper that came with the printer with a printout of its self-test (surely from Windows). It reads: 58-IV-U Thermal Printer Version: 58.E-Z04-AA Revised date: 06-Jan-2017 Command Standard: EPSON (ESC/POS) Print mode: Normal mode & Hex Mode Print method: Line Thermal Print width: 384 dots/line Print speed: 90 mm/s Chinese Mode: NO Print density: Level3 Current Codepage:0 Interface Type: USB Current Character: Chinese (GB18030) Alphanumeric Code Page: 0: OEM437 (Std.Europe) 1: Katakana 2:OEM850 (Multilingual) (…) 96:(Thai2) I wonder why the CUPS folks have not released a generic “EPSON ESC/POS” printer driver where the above parameters can be tweaked and entered manually. The driver mentioned above was compiled, and installed but didn’t work. A sample print gave gibberish. A second text-only printing (by clicking the CUPS “print self-test page” read “IF YOU CAN READ THIS YOU’RE USING THE WRONG DRIVER FOR YOUR PRINTER”. A crude bug-finding code it seems… Any ideas before I head over to the CUPS maling list and pull my hair? If we can't get a USB line printer detected and configured and send ASCII to it, we're doomed. All because there's a dozen poorly documented layers of software crap obscuring it... FC

[FC8] ssh and CAC card???

From what I understood, the change to openssh listed in: rpm -q --changelog openssh |less as: "* Wed Jun 20 2007 Tomas Mraz <tmraz(a)redhat.com> - 4.5p1-7 - experimental NSS keys support - correctly setup context when empty level requested (#234951) " was supposed to allow the Common Access Card (CAC) to work with the shipped Fedora 8 ssh. This list's search engine not working?

Ever since I stumbled across this list, I seem to have major difficulties searching the archives. Say I want to see my posts to the list (they all have the same footer as below), I believe I could go to http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/ and enter "HaJo" as a search string. Searching in all sections, I get 0 results. Does the search engine ignore me by some reason? BTW -- I've been posting since about June, and when showing the archives sorted by author, I do find my posts. OK, not the most helpful to search for my own posts, but I do have the same issue when searching for given topics. Any other search engine out there indexing this list reliably? SATA optical drives

I'm currently running FC5, will probably upgrade to F7 in a couple of months. Unfortunately my CD/DVD rewriter appears to have died, before it's even seen a dual layer disk :'( SATA hard drives run without problems for me, but now that SATA optical drives are starting to appear in the shops, would it be OK to buy one of these and get rid of another wide ribbon cable? Is anybody already running them with Fedora? Thanks for any advice/experiences. Dave F

Apache and umask for document root

Hi, I've set up a virtual host for a joomla website and having some permissions problems. I've seen numerous configurations online about how to set umask for the apache user, but none have worked, including creating a systemd file (/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/httpd.service) with the following: [Unit] Description=The Apache HTTP Server After=network.target remote-fs.target nss-lookup.target [Service] Type=notify Environment=LANG=C Umask=0006 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -DFOREGROUND ExecReload=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -k graceful # Send SIGWINCH for graceful stop KillSignal=SIGWINCH KillMode=mixed PrivateTmp=true [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target The problem is that the files are owned by the joomla user, but also need to have access (both read and write) to be able to modify some files within the document root. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to set umask for the apache user? I'm also interested in recommended permissions settings for the joomla document root. Thanks, Alex

Changing date with procmail

Anyone know of a procmail recipe to change the date on incoming messages? If the date is in the future by more than 24 hours - I'd like to just change it to the current date. If the date is in the past by more than two weeks - I'd like to just change it to the current date. I'd like to do it in procmail - if someone knows how. I've done some searching, still have some to do. Found some stuff on extracting the date, but not on modifying it if necessary.

Improper shutdown, now Kernel panic.

Hi all: I've got an odd problem that I was hoping for some help on. The laptop was previously working fine, I am running F30, updated regularly. I've got an Acer laptop that has been shutting down suddenly. (I suspect a bad battery, working on that.) After a sudden shutdown last night, I now get a kernel panic on boot right after "Starting Switch Root..." I was able to boot from a USB stick, and was able to read the journal, but I didn't see anything obvious to help. I was able to get all of my data off of the (encrypted) disks, so that's not a problem, but I don't want to just give up, and wash and reload too quickly. Any suggestions? Thanks, --murph
