patch to kernel
by Globe Trotter
Question: How does one patch to a kernel? I am under the impression that i need
the src.rpm to do this, but is it at all otherwise possible? Also, if I want to
recompile after patching, how can I do so, given that my kernel is the latest
at this point?
Thanks and best wishes!

by Globe Trotter
I am curious on how to use alternatives. Lets say, i have two installations of
java and I want to use one for some program and the other for everything else.
How do I get this to work? Do I have to su and switch the alternatives
everytime I change, or can I just use this as some sort of argument?
Thanks!

Windows not starting at Boot
by Phan Qlo
Hi,
I'm a very fresh user of Fedora that I've installed on a new HD some
days ago.
Now I'm very in troubles because since the first time Windows doesn't
appears at the boot and I think the matter is on /dev/hdb 1st partition
"HPFS/NTFS" instead of Linux.
This is the grub.conf file plus fdisk of both 1st HD (Win) and 2nd HD
(Fc3).
Could you confirm and give me any suggestion ?
Thanks

OT: Squid or iptables or something else?
by Kanwar Ranbir Sandhu
Hi Everyone,
I generally don't start OT threads in mailing lists, but this is such a
high traffic list that it's perhaps the best place to ask this question.
I have a client that wants to restrict access to the Internet to only
one website for every employee, except two people: these two should not
be restricted at all.
I was at first considering using iptables, but after doing some
searching on the net, I discovered that Squid could be used.
Which approach would be better? I'm leaning towards Squid because I can
see my client making requests down the road to open access for some
sites, or add more employees who should be able to access all sites etc.
Squid would make managing this much easier.
At the moment their primary server is also a LTSP box (Dell 1600SC, dual
P4, 1GB ram, lots of storage in RAID5). Putting Squid on it should be
okay since there are only 10 users (for now).
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. If there's something
else I should take a look at, please let me know.
Regards,
Ranbir

How to locate System devices
by Jay Scherrer
I have a Sharp Zaurus PDA. My Fedora recognizes the system device
which is using the OHCI hub. Using the Systemtools->Hardware
browser->System devices lists Sharp Zaurus SL 5200D/5500 PDA on a USB
OHCI Root Hub.
How do I detect which device FC has assigned to it? As in /dev/????

nvidia 128mb w/core 3
by Cyber Source
Hello all,
Did the issue of 128mb nvidia cards and core 3 ever get solved? It
will hang on the NVIDIA splash screen. This only happens with 128mb
cards and core 3.

state of eclipse gcj gtk swt efforts ?
by Skunk Worx
I've heard that RedHat has a native compiled (non-JVM) version of the
eclipse IDE in the works?
Also there is some kind of project underfoot implementing the "swt" (I
think this is IBM's answer to Swing) as a wrapper around the gtk widgets?
Also there appears to be a code performance profiler and an rpm package
builder released as plugins for eclipse...for the "CDT" package.
Finally there are musings that this will all come together and be
released under yum for fedora...at some point.
So, what is the skinny? Is there any roadmap published anywhere
regarding when these tools will become available and what capabilities
are planned?
Thanks,
John
