up2date with compiled versions of latest kernel

Was wondering something. I updated by newly installed fedora 1 including
the provided kernel(s), and then when I ran up2date I was told everthing
was up2date and there was nothing more to do. That is what I wanted to see.
Then, I decided to recompile the latest kernel to add some of the features
I wanted to use and after that was done, the running of up2date told me
that I should be running the RPM version of the kernel as that was the
better way of doing things.
How does one do that and still add the needed features to the kernel that
are not already there??
Anyone please?

BitTorrent help

I installed the BitTorrent client via Yum using the FreshRpms
repository. I can't seem to get the program to run. I'm probably
overlooking something obvious but can't seem to figure it out. Any help
would be most appreciated.

Sun JDK distribution issues

Hi!
Could someone explain why Fedora doesn't include Sun's JDK? I know that
there are some issues concerning distribution (source and stuff) and I
was looking for some details about this.
With all this brouhaha about Java possibly going GPL I was wondering
about other ways of opening up Java so that all distro concerns are
eliminated and without risking the fragmentation that so many developers
fear about a GPLed Java (myself included, I value the "write-once, run
anywhere" motto above all things).

Seeing files on a Sony memory stick from Digital handycam

I have a digital handycam with a memory stick
connected by USB. I am unable to address the stick
and see the files in Fedora Core Linux. Is there some
way to be able to see the memory stick and to also
stream videos using Linux? I found the digital camera
tool but that does not address this problem.
(In the dreaded Windows XP I'm able to just plug in
the USB cable and see the memory stick as another type
of drive.)

printer not listed

My printer works fine under Fedora. It's a Lexmark E323 with
postscript (emulation?).
However, I had to pick generic postscript printer in cups. What is
the file I need to get from Lexmark (file extension name?) to include
the proper support for this printer in cups so it shows up in the
list when setting up the printer?
I realize that there is a binary Linux driver for this printer, but I
don't think it's needed since the printer works out of the box with
the generic postscript under cups. I would need some type of spec
file for this specific postscript printer?
We have already tried the lexmark 323 linux driver and the print
quality is no different than the cups generic postscript driver.
However, I have not tried printing envelopes, lables, using special
fonts, etc.

Grub boot options - updated kernel hangs

Hi:
I've installed all the updates but the new kernel (kernel-2.4.22-1.2188.nptl.athlon.rpm, I have a A64 3200+) hangs and I don't get any logging in /var/log/messages.
What command or key (t??) do I use at boot time, or so that I can watch to see where it is hanging? I can't seem to find documentation on boot options.

managed list for site blocking using proxy

Hi all,
Does anybody know of a proxy which allows blocking black-listed sites.
More importantly: Is there a (frequently updated) black-list available which
can be automaticly incorporated into this proxy?
This proxy is to be used in a primary school. Client (windoze) filters (like
We-Blocker) are an option, but a proxy would be nice. And maybe a first step
towards cheaper software solutions allover, but that'll be a long run.

nVidia GLX

Ok, here's the thing. I have a GeForce MX 440 (onboard my nForce 2
mainboard). My maximum screen resolution is now 640x480, but it goes to
1600x1200 (16bits). I think I must install nvidia-glx, but I have
absolutely no idea where to start. Could anyone give me hand?
