Ok but Webmin is just a part of what i'm searching..
I want to have an system stats and summary (if service failed..) and a

Re: Fedora3 installation
by DMWJAG@netscape.net
Thanks for the message.
It is consistent but the boot image I copied is from my floppy (Red-Hat9.0) which boots up and lets me get into RH9 OK?
If I should I use another boot image, where can I get it from?
Thanks,
Dave

Problems with ldap on Fedora Core 3
by Bruce Embrey
Fedora List:
I get the following error when trying to log in to FC3 with ssh using ldap:
Last login: Mon Jan 24 10:13:34 2005 from 192.168.2.107
id: cannot find name for user ID 10271
id: cannot find name for user ID 10271
[I have no name!@cpg23 ~]$
I get this error both when using ssl or TLS. It appears that ldap
authenication is working but not the ldap user information. I've applied
updates for FC3 and it hasn't resolved this issue. Has anyone been able
to get this to work in FC3? I also have a Redhat 7.2 server that uses
ldap and it is working fine.

System Summary for Webpage
by bsebastien@bluewin.ch
Hi,
I want to know if a project like this exists :
A web interface for a system summary (load average etc.. (like
phpsysinfo)) with administration possibility (add, remove... users /
group...) and have a summary of the system (like the daily mail made by
slocate (or another cron.daily task....) ?
I search this just for fedora.. the idea isn't to make another webmin
but to make a Fedora Server Web Interface if you know what i'm searching..
Thanks !

Peter, be sure that the "sense" controls *are* muted; there are 2, one
is for headphone jack and I forget what the other was, but both had
"sense" in the names. This fixed the problems for me.
-Curt
I cann't find any "sense" controls. All i see on the control panel is; master-PCM-surround-center
-LFE-line-CD-mic-mic boost-video-IEC 958-IEC 958 Playback AC97-SPSA-PC speaker-AUX.
I muted them one by one though without any improvement.
I noticed that testing GStreamer Preferences (applications-preferences-more pref-multimedia
systems selector) both audio tests result in failure. I not sure if this is important.
I installed xine and was astonished to find out that both cd's and (movie-)dvd's can be played now.
I am happy and grateful for the hint someone of this list gave me.
Still i wonder why xmms and cd-player won work.

selinux and apache modules linked against libs in non-standard places
by Aleksandar Milivojevic
I have PHP module linked against library in non-standard place. When
starting Apache web server, it loads PHP module, which in turn attempts
to load this library. This is what I get in /var/log/messages each time
I start Apache:
kernel: audit(1107201979.916:0): avc: denied { execute } for pid=3248
path=/opt/foobar/lib/libfoobar.so.1.0.0.1 dev=dm-1 ino=560573
scontext=root:system_r:httpd_t tcontext=system_u:object_r:usr_t tclass=file
I believe this is due to the fact that Apache is restricted in what
files it can open using SELinux policies. How to allow Apache to use an
library in non-standard place (/opt/foobar/lib for example)? Preferably
in a way that will not be overwritten when system is updated (if
possible, of course).

Evolution vs Kmail/Kontack Observation
by Chadley Wilson
Hi guys,
I recently switched back to fedora from suse9.1
I decided to give good old gnome a bash, but using evolution I noticed that
mail retrieving took quite a long time. Well what can you expect from a super
busy list.
The question is why when I switched back to KDE does Kmail retrieve mail so
much faster.
Going out on a limb here I suppose it has some thing to do with the when and
how it sorts mail. I have the same filters in place on kmail as on evolution
and am subscribed to 16 mailing lists and 6 news groups.
So the filter I have in place are definatly not the issue, and since kmail is
noticabley faster that eliminate the fact that my server could be slow or
busy.
In my test which I conducted today I set evolution (currently my default) to
leave messages on the server.
Tonight I backup my evolution folder, I then configured my account in
evolution and kmail both set to leave messages on the server.
Evolution downloaded the 1500 odd emails in 5 minutes while kmail downloaded
the same (give or take about 10 mails) in 30 seconds.
Is this a common observation or is there something that is not functioning
correctly in my evolution setup?
TIA

Flaky touchpad behavior in FC3
by Matthew Cole
All,
I'm having really touchy behavior with the touchpad on my Presario 900
notebook. It works, but changing finger pressure in the slightest is
interpreted as a mouse click, which wreaks havoc in Evolution, Firefox
and so forth.
In Windows XP, I used to be able to completely disable the tap=mouse
button "feature", and I'm wondering if I can do the same in Fedora.
For what it's worth, I'm a veteran in Solaris, and I've used Red Hat
products before (before the Enterprise Linux/Fedora split) but fairly
new to the modern Fedora distributions. So if the solution is asking me
to edit profiles and environment variables, that isn't a problem.
Regards,
Matthew Cole
