Python Zipimport Bitpim Problem
by Chris Spencer
A day after I install Bitpim (http://bitpim.sourceforge.net), I get this
error when I try to run it:
zipimport.ZipImportError: not a Zip file: '/usr/lib/bitpim-0.7.32/bp'
Fatal Python error: cannot get zipimporter instance
Aborted
The only way I've found to fix it is to reinstall Bitpim, but the
problem always returns a day later. I asked the Bitpim devs and they
told me:
"You can thank your operating system for this. Every evening it runs a
task that goes around stripping files. In this bp is an ELF binary
with a zip file appended. The automated strip processes is removing
the zip file.
I suggest finding the cron job that does this and stop it. (No, I don't
know what it is exactly as I don't run Fedora). "
Does anyone know what he's talking about? What cron job would I stop and
how would I do that?
This problem is immensely frustrating and makes Bitpim essentially
unusable on Fedora. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Chris

How to get XFS to be properly supported in FC
by Aly Dharshi
Hello Folks,
I hope that you are well. I just wanted to find out how I could go
about soliciting support for getting XFS into the Anaconda installer GUI
and text FS selector drop down menu without having to type linux xfs at
the prompt.
I believe that there is interest in this going this way, so how would
could I get this going.
Cheers,
Aly.

Bash bug?
by Zoltan Boszormenyi
Hi,
I am trying something like the following,
with a configuration file containing a token and
a directory in a line, depending on the tokens,
certain actions should be taken later. Validating
the configuration file whether all the required/optional
tokens are in the file should go like this:
-----a.txt----------------------
A directory1
B directory2
C directory3
--------------------------------
-----a.sh-----------------------
#!/bin/bash
HAS_A=0
HAS_B=0
HAS_C=0
cat a.txt | while read i ; do
if [ "`echo $i | awk '{ print $1 }'`" = "A" ]; then
HAS_A=1
fi
if [ "`echo $i | awk '{ print $1 }'`" = "B" ]; then
HAS_B=1
fi
if [ "`echo $i | awk '{ print $1 }'`" = "C" ]; then
HAS_C=1
fi
echo "A: $HAS_A B: $HAS_B C: $HAS_C"
done
echo "Final A: $HAS_A B: $HAS_B C: $HAS_C"
--------------------------------
Result is:
--------------------------------
$ ./a.sh
A: 1 B: 0 C: 0
A: 1 B: 1 C: 0
A: 1 B: 1 C: 1
Final A: 0 B: 0 C: 0
--------------------------------
It seems to be a bug to me, the envvars lose their values
they gained in the loop. It's an ancient bug I must add,
I just rechecked it and bash in RedHat 7.1 behaves the same.
How can I preserve the variables' values? Putting "export"
in front of every assignments doesn't help.
Best regards,
Zoltán Böszörményi

KNode - how to view recent postings?
by Timothy Murphy
I'm still trying to work out how to look up recent postings,
say those in the last 24 hours.
I've tried what seems the obvious way of creating a "24hr" filter,
but this does not work.
If anyone has managed to do this, could they explain how, please.

RE: NEWBIE to yum and apt-get on FC4
by Edward.D.Kramer@wellsfargo.com
I guess I should rephrase what Im looking for, I need some Repo's that will contain items like mplayer, Xine, or even better yet GNUPOD. Maybe I am missing something here with my commands:
Yum install mplayer
Returns back
No Match for argument: mplayer
Nothing to do
I would expect this is me needing a new Repo to connect into that contains the application Im looking for.
Thanks,
DK

KAddressBook - again
by Timothy Murphy
I'm still looking for the AddressBook handbook.
I just have a vestigial version, with 3 more or less empty chapters.
Someone posted a long index of the version they had.
But they never explained what RPM it came with.
I have the latest stable kdepim and kdepim-devel ,
and neither of them seem to have the full handbook.
What exactly is the handbook file called?
(Maybe I have it but have lost the link?)
If you use KAddressBook and have the full handbook,
please see if you can work out which RPM it comes from.

Knowing when a certain bug of gtk-qt-engine is corrected
by Paul Smith
Dear All
Some time ago, I reported here a bug on gtk-qt-engine, which I have
meanwhile removed from my computer. Since gtk-qt-engine is not
installed, I cannot know when a new (corrected) version of it is
released. Is there some automatic way of being informed when the bug
is corrected in a new version, other than
yum list gtk-qt-engine ?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

I see that livna has transcode 1.0.0-0.lvn.3.3 in their unstable repo since
28th September, so its obviously being tested out.
Sharon.
