Restricted Shell
by Jaigh Jaddo
I would like to give users access to ftp, sftp and scp without access
to the shell. It looks like rssh will only support openssh (sftp,
scp) but not ftp. I see a few references on google to rksh which
sounds promising but I cannot find source for it anywhere. There is
scponly but it has the same problems as rssh. Does anyone know of a
solution that will support ssh as well as ftp(vsftpd)?
Thanks,
JJ

Samba Problem
by Michael Satterwhite
I'm trying to get Samba functioning on my home network. It worked fine
on Ubuntu - and I've saved the configuration file. Obviously I'm doing
something wrong here, but I don't see it.
My smb.conf has the line WORKGROUP=SATTERWHITE
When I try to browse the network on my Windows box, I get the error message
"Satterwhite is not accessible
The associated network name is no longer available."
I can post / send anything else that you need to help me with the problem.
Does anyone know where I should start?
Thanks in advance.

grub/core6
by Ted Gervais
I just installed fedora Core6 and now I can't boot up the system.
I have a dual boot system here; winXP on a drive by itself (hda) and fedora
core6 on its own drive (hdb).
After things were installed with grub as my default boot manager I can't
get into fedora 6 at all. A boot takes me right into windows with no
stopping at the grub process.
To try and get this working I have tried doing a 'reinstall' of core6 but
even though the process said it was installing grub all over again, it
never appeared.
And than I thought of using the rescue disk and trying to get things going
that way. And that failed. But here is what I had done..
Fedora Core6 rescue disk - boot.
ran chroot /mnt/sysimage
Than I ran grub-install /dev/hda, and that gave me "/dev/hda does not have
any corresponding BIOS drive.
So I ran grub-install again but used /dev/hdb with the same result
. /dev/hdb is my core6 installation drive.
I even ran grub-install /dev/hdb1 and /dev/hda1 all with the same result:
"/dev/hdX does not have any corresponding BIOS drive."
That leaves me at a standstill with no way to get into my Fedora
installation. Is there a way using the resuce disk to boot into core6?
I don't know there is a way, but if there is that would be nice to know.
The bottom line is - what is wrong with the grub installation process that
it won't write anything to anything to get the system to dual boot.??

If you take out the CPU then you will also need to apply fresh heat
sink compound. I found that a little white spirit (or whatever the
solvent for cleaning oil based paint out of brushes is called in your
locality) from the DIY shop on a kitchen wipe is very effective for
cleaning off the old compound.

I decided that if a machine hangs during memtest especially when it's
already been running for several hours then it most probably isn't
the memory that's causing the problem. Does this seem reasonable?

BTW Just another thought - Are you powering the machine with a UPS?

fc6 / windows xp dual-boot system
by Don Raikes
Hello,
I have a gateway computer which had windows xp installed on the second partition. The first aprtition was a "recovery" image for xp.
I had 100gb of free space on the drive and installed fc6 onto that.
My grub.conf lists the windows partition, but when I try to boot to the windows system, the pc just hangs.

Hi all,
The package updater can not apply available security updates because of missing dependencies. It says libparted-1.7.so.1 is missing where can I find it?
