Gnome panel clock

I was asked why the GNOME panel clock calendar displays weeks that begin with
Monday.
The other questions are. Ccan it be changed to begin with Sunday? And, of
course if possible, how to change it?

Query about Xvid avi codecs

Hello,
I have a movie of Xvid avi format which I wanted to burn on a cd for
standalone cdplayer.
I have a no. of queries:
1} Will Xvid run on a cdplayer.
2} If I have to convert the movie to a diff codec, then which one and
how?
3} Some good links in this regard.

What do you think of Centos

Hi all,
I hope I'm not starting a flame war.
Can someone pls tell me the ups and down between Centos and FC?
I'm familiar with FC4 and some things that I like from it:
1. The available packages are abundant. Very easy to find packages for FC4.
2. The user list is very active and friendly too (I have subscribed to Centos
list and seems like they're friendly too :)

Ideal Server Hardware Choice

I'm researching purchasing 2 new servers for our network. Ideally I
want to be 100% compatible with FC Linux (obviously). Our network is 50
clients with 164K internet connection (slow). We run:
-Internet gateway via iptables/firewall
-DHCP/DNS for local network
-Sendmail averaging 3-4k messages/day with POP3 via dovecot
-Apache web for intranet with perl/php/mysql.
-MySQL database is large, but access is maybee 3-5 clients at any given
time.
-Ideally converting to Tomcat application server for intranet (replacing
perl/php).
-FTP (maybee SAMBA again someday)
-OpenLDAP for unified login, company address book
-Remote access may be added when we get the bandwidth to support it...
I have been researching:
IBM eServers x206 x226 anyone know if these are good systems for FC
linux?
Sun's X2100 systems.
Dell 1800, looks fairly standard.
So, do any of you Fedora Users/Network Admins have any recommendations
for me? Does Fedora have a list of their test farm servers so I can see
what they use? I remember seeing a note IBM donated some servers to
Fedora recently.

Boot problem W2k/FC4 -

I have installed Windows 2000/NTFS on /dev/hda and FC4 on /dev/hdb but
Grub is never displayed, Windows is booted immediately. I've tried
installing grub in boot and mbr as offered in the installation routine
with the same result.
I have a CDROM with some utilities on it that permit me to boot the
computer with some basic Linux functions; I see that fdisk shows both
drives toggled to "boot." If I toggle the boot designation off on
/dev/hda FC4 [dev/hdb] displays GRUB on the screen and stops ...
I've installed Windows and Fedora a number of times without encountering
problems but now I've hit the wall! I don't understand the grub boot
process well enough to troubleshoot this. I know I've seen similar
questions asked but searching has been fruitless?
Any help appreciated.

Wget, Yum and network investigation

Scenary
1 Pc acting as router with Fedora 4, iptables, squid, transparent proxy
other PC's working with Fedora
I have two twin networks (at home and at office) and they are very similar,
i.e. in most cases configuration files are the same, sometimes transferred
from one system forth and backwards. One router has been updated from RH8 to
RH9/FC1/FC2/FC3/FC4, the other router was a fresh FC4 install.
I updated all systems (router and other computers) by yum update or
graphically by Yumex for a long time.
Suddenly yum (and Yumex) on one router didn't work any more, while synaptic
works fine
Suddenly the router could not be updated by yum:
yum update
Setting up Update Process

Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: updates-released

The other PC on same network could be updated by yum
On Paul's advice i issued the wget command on the router
Please note the difference if I use flag --inet6 (that doesn't work) or
inet4 that works. Wget without any flag works flawlessly.

how to boot fedora core 4

hi
i m new in this list.
i got a problem to boot my just install fedora core 4. i want to tast it
and i dont want to monify the MBR of my fist disk where the nt boot
loader is intall
so i don't install grub and i try to launch fedora with loadlin 1.6C
and it freeze after decompacting the kernel
i want to use a loader on a dos session
the ide0 got in his fist partition dos 6.22 and the second NT4
i got 3 other SCSI drive and fedora is on a forth SCSI new dive i
install for it (install on sdd1 and sdd2 the swap).
how can i do to boot on a dos session ?

NFS - mount: permission denied

I can't mount an exported server share.
I have googloed this message error and found lots of posts. Tried all
the pointed solutions and still can't mount it.
The server is fc5t3 and the client fc4.
>From the client:
# mount -t nfs4 10.1.1.103:/home /mnt/s0

Both /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny are empty

DMA issues with FC4 on a Dell precision M70

Hi
I have a Dell Precision M70 whose primary hard disk is a SATA disk
(/dev/sda) running FC4 (kernel 2.6.15-1.1831_FC4).
The secondary hard disk is a PATA one (/dev/hdc, in the laptop modular
bay) and apparently I cannot get DMA enabled on it, resulting in very poor
performances (2.5 MB/s against 25 MB/s for the same disk in the modular
bay of a PATA only Dell D800 where it runs happily with DMA enabled).
If I try to enable DMA by hand I get:
[root@pcalfr ~]# hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc

Every help/suggestion is greatly appreciated
