Wired Ethernet Connection at Hotel
by Rick Bilonick
I'm using FC4 on a Dell Inspiron 2200 and connecting through the wired
ethernet port. I connect all the time through this port at work and also
connect wirelessly without problem. When I try to connect using the wired
ethernet port using eth0 at a hotel using the gui interface, it connects
sort of but I cannot view web pages or do much. I can see that I'm
assigned an ip (I'm using dhcp) and I can guess at the gateway ip and the
dns ip. If I create a route to the gateway (either using the route command
or using the network gui) and enter the dns ip, I can then surf web pages,
use ssh, etc. The only problem is I have to re-activate the connection
frequently.
Any idea on why using dhcp doesn't work more automatically and more
easily and why I keep losing the connection? I've run into this problem
before with this laptop at other hotels that used wired ethernet. Wireless
dhcp works as expected.

Need PDF version of RPM Guide.
by Steve Juranich
I'd like to have a PDF version of the RPM Guide (currently posted at
http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/drafts/rpm-guide-en/). I tried following the
directions for getting the draft documentation posted here:
http://fedora.redhat.com/projects/docs/.
After successfully checking out the docs-common and the rpm-guide modules, I
cd'ed into the proper directory, typed `make', and this is what I got:
barbet (rpm-guide)$ make
grep: en/rpm-guide.xml: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `/local/src/fedora/rpm-guide/rpm-info.xml',
needed by `en/fdp-info.xml'. Stop.
Is this rpm-info.xml not included in the repository by accident? Did I do
something wrong?
Thanks a bunch.

wireless and usb mouse issues
by Stephen Esquibel
Here's the issue:
I have been trying to get my wireless PCI card working under network
manager. I have compiled a custom kernel from linuxant FC5-2096-stk16
(I pulled out support for other processors and added the default NTFS
support). I compiled ndiswrapper against that source and installed
the module and the driver (rt61.ko). Since then, I can see the card,
and I can scan for networks. I can see my network, which I have used
WEP and MAC filtering. When I try to connect, It cannot determine an
IP address. On top of that when it starts to attempt the connection,
I get a system message telling me that the kernel is "Disabling IRQ
#9" and my usb mouse starts moving really slow.
What can I do to fix both the wireless and the IRQ conflict?

Beagle, what can I do with it?
by Bob Goodwin
I see that "beagle" is part of FC5 and has generated
a lot of files but I can't find any way to make it do anything?
Entering "beagle" goes no where, "bash: beagle: command not found"
I don't find a "man page" for it. Perhaps I could simply remove it via yum?
Or is there some trick to getting it to do something? Google has not
helped.
Any help appreciated.

FESCo Election
by Thorsten Leemhuis
Hi All!
Just FYI, FESCo (the Fedora Extras Steering Committee) currently plans a
election of the members for the next FESCo. The current plan is that all
members of the cvsextras group in the accounts systems (e.g. all Fedora
Extras packagers) can vote their new "leaders".
For details see
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-extras-list/2006-May/msg00026.html

FC5 docs
by Keith Powell
Hello!
Although I'm very much a Fedora newbie, I have been using other Linux
distros for some time and am OK with the "standard" operations.
However, I have got an FC5 magazine cover disk DVD and want to try
Fedora for the first time. I've installed it and initial impressions
are very good.
There are some things which I have not come across before, such as
YAM, PIRUT, and PUP. I want to find out how to use these packages,
how to add repositories to them, and which repositories to add. For
example, I understand that I need to add livna in order to install an
nvidia driver. (My LCD monitor is off-centre unless I use the nvidia
driver, rather than the generic nv one.)
There will be other things I will find which are new to me as well.
Is there a manual on using Fedora which I could download and print
out? I would rather do this than keep bombarding the list with basic
questions. There is no document included on the DVD.
Thanks for any help.

Gnome Panel Auto-Hide
by Ali Helmy
Hey lads,
I turned on Auto-Hide for my gnome top-panel and then resized the auto-hide
to 0 pxs, and it worked fine... however, when I restarted the computer and
logged back in, it doesn't work anymore... turning auto-hide on or off has
no effect what so ever, and it stays this way and i cant get it to function
again

Opening an URL in kmail or knode
by Timothy Murphy
There seems to have been a slight change
in the way kmail/knode interacts with firefox.
When I click on an URL in kmail or knode,
with firefox running on a different desktop,
the focus now goes to the firefox window.
Previously, the link would be saved in firefox,
but the focus would remain on kmail (say).
This allowed me, when reading the NY Times, for example,
to click on several URLs, and continue reading the paper
while firefox collected the pages I'd asked for.
Is this a setting I could alter,
or is it a change in a recent version of firefox?

FC 5 black screen before install
by 스팸관리자
I have downloaded, sha1sum'ed and burned a set of CD install discs.
After booting from disc 1, I hit <enter> to start a graphical install
and get a black screen. I have tried several variants of 'linux xxx'
at the boot: prompt and all result in the black screen.
I'm running:
Asus A7V333
AMD Athlon XP 1800
512 MB RAM
nVidia NV15DDR GeForce2 Ti
Sony Trinitron Multiscan G400
Any ideas on getting an install process that I can see executing?
Thanks!
