F8 -> F9 horror

I have been using F8 for a while now and simply put it was the only distro that supported my laptop (fairly) well.
Today I accepted what appeared to be 'typical' updates. The size of the update concerned me slightly (500Mb) but turned to horror when it finished and I rebooted.
My useful KDE3 system has been replaced by KDE4! Not only that but X won't start because the previously installed Theme cannot be found. Oh and a minor issue - my net card no longer works.
I'd like to point out that KDE4, by it's own authors is not intended to be for mainstream use:

But pushed (more like shoved) I was and I now have a completely unusable, broken system that I have reply upon daily for development. Everyone is jumping on the KDE4 band-wagon but the wagon is missing three wheels. This is a complete disaster of a decision to make KDE4 the default install and sets-back Linux for anyone but the 'bleeders'.
KDE4 should NEVER be installed over KDE without explicit permission of the user. Ever. Period.

The guy is on vacation, A teacher needs to connect to the network to teach a lesson. Nothing illegal or bad. Otherwise I would not ask this question. I do not want to use unauthorized network without permission. I can ask permission from Administration, but the guy that knows the key is not here. If there is no way to do it, then I rest my case! The person can die and then the key is lost to the network. There has to be a way to do it. The computer could access the network before. it was set up by wireless dhcp, but now someone who manages the network put a key and many users(teachers) cannot access the internet. The person that takes care of that is on vacation. Is there a way or not?
That is all that I am asking.

yum-updatesd isn't telling me of updates

I have a clean install of F9, and I installed yum-updatesd.
I changed the yum-updatesd config file to send me notification via
e-mail, but I never get a notification, and restarted the service
(service yum-updatesd restart)
I've checked that updates are available via yum check-update, and
waited well over an hour (i.e over night) and still, no e-mail
notification.
I don't see any errors reported in any log files... /var/log/... what
should I be looking at.
My smtp server is configured properly to send mail, as I have other
processes that send mail fine.
Any suggestions as to why yum-updatesd isn't telling me of applicable updates?

BTW, it worked great on my F8 system, but that whole system was wiped
out when I upg F8 -> F9

Last message in folder in evolution not deleted (F9)

When you delete the last email from a folder in evolution, it just shows
it as marked for delete but doesn't get hidden like the messages before
it.

What's with the cryptic device labels? What creates them? What was wrong
and what happened with the good ole' /dev/sda? and such? The same crap can
be found in grub.conf too. Is it selinux? Are my drives encrypted or
something?
And what can I do to get back to the sane old-style drive names?
Yes, I know I can do mount to see what drive is mounted where, but I
really don't understand what purpose this sort of improvement serves.

Yes, PulseAudio server was not running. And when I tried to start it it
told me following:

So I guess something went off yesterday when I played with settings to
get sound for games like etqw too... I did what I did in Fedora 8 to get
sound for it and it worked perfectly yesterday althought it was just
mono sound.
What I did was adding:
load-module module-alsa-sink device=plug:dmix:0
load-module module-alsa-sink device=plug:dmix:1
into /etc/pulse/default.pa to get way to tell etqw that alsa device is
in dmix:1
This worked fine in Fedora 8 without problems.
I reverted that and I got pulseaudio server running (but only after
putting SELinux to Permissive mode. As a funny side note: With that my
smaller KDM login problem disappeared too.)

But now the etqw doesn't work unless I disable audio. :|
Mono audio comes out from some programs but I want stereo sound from
every single program. For example I cannot get sound from Amarok using
PulseAudio playback device, but with Alsa as playback device I get mono
output. It doesn't matter what channel configuration I am using. I can
put 5.1 and it still outputs only mono 1.0.
There is something wrong with pulseaudio. Phonon shows now "PulseAudio
Sound Server" on devices list (after installing most of the pulseaudio
and alsa plugins) but there is also device called "PulseAudio"...

By the way, should I file this up as a bug in Bugizilla? They suggest it

Somebody please explain what does my mic+webcam has to do on this since
there ain't even a driver for it? It's never ever worked in linux or
shown up in any pcm lists.

If that doesn't solve it then I don't know what to do.

how to find WEP/WPA key to network if possible

Dear all,
How does one get a KEY to a secured network that could be WEP/WPA?
Why we had a unsecured wireless network at school and I could connect with a laptop. Everything got configured automatically, now, the computer does not connect automatically. It is asking for a KEY and I do not know the key. The Network Administrator is hard to find/on vacation. Is there a way easy/hard to find the key so that I can connect to this network?

EDAC i5000 NON-FATAL ERRORs

I noticed that after upgrading the kernel on a Fedora 7 x86_64
box is the latest kernel (the box hadn't been rebooted for some months)
that I am now seeing the following in my messages log...
May 25 04:30:56 fourier kernel: EDAC i5000 MC0: NON-FATAL ERRORS Found!!! 1st NON-FATAL Err Reg= 0x10000
May 25 04:30:56 fourier kernel: EDAC MC0: CE row 1, channel 0, label "": (Branch=0 DRAM-Bank=3 RDWR=Read RAS=14339 CAS=672, CE Err=0x10000)
These messages always occur on DRAM-Bank 3 and are always NON-FATAL. The messages appear roughly once
an hour and are rarely repeated immediately. This machine contains a Tyan Tempest i5000XL motherboard
with ECC memory installed. Does anyone know if the recent kernels had any changes which made these
motherboard chipset report ECC memory errors which were not reported in the past? I haven't been
able to reproduce these errors in memtest86 yet with or without ECC. So I am wondering if I am seeing
noise from the EDAC driver or real ECC errors. Thanks in advance for any insights on this.
