ATI/Radeon FD 4200 driver (on mobo)
by Gene Smith
I have recently installed f12 on a new system with the built-in Radeon
FD 4200 video. It basically works except for two or three things.
If I try to do the suspend to ram when I power back up I have to use
alt-F7 to see anything. Then I see that the network connection is down
and I have to reconnect using the tray icon (not a big deal and probably
not video driver related). But the bad thing is that the video shows
faint and transient lines when a window is moved or scrolled and the
background repaints a bit slower when windows are moved
If I suspend to ram again, on power-on, nothing comes back and I have to
reboot.
I have installed the xorg-x11-drv-ati and mesa-dri-drivers-experimental
but not sure they are being used. /var/log/Xorg.0.log indicates driver
is (VESA) so not sure how you know when the ati and/or mesa driver(s)
are actually "running". (lsmod indicates that "radeon" is installed.)
Anyone have experience or advice on using this type of on-board video?

statserial tarball
by Gene Heskett
Greetings folks;
It appears that statserial will almost do what I want, although without the
blinkenlites I was looking for. However its refresh rate of once a second is
about 10x too slow, so I think I'm missing some flow control events.
Where can I find a tarball of the most recent version, google seems to only
hit on ready to run rpms & debs.

Mount point for Windows shares?
by Zbigniew Fiedorowicz
When I connect to a Windows share via the Places->Connect to Server
menu, I can see the share in Gnome, but I can't find it anywhere in the
file system from a terminal window. Where is the mount point for such a
share?

chromium vs google-chrome
by Genes MailLists
Thank you Spot for providing a chromium repo - I am not sure where to
report this so am starting here;
Java works fine in google-chrome - but not in chromium.
about:plugins shows the sun java (new api libnpjp2.so, vers
1.6.0u18) just as it does for google-chrome however any java test fails
to find java.
Adding links to /usr/lib/chromium-browser/plugins makes no difference.
This is on 64 bit - I think 32 bit has same problem.

Dual monitor questions
by Paolo Galtieri
I have a video card with 2 connectors, one VGA and one DVI. The primary
monitor is attached to the VGA connector and supports resolution up to
1920x1200. The second monitor is much smaller and does not support
1920x1200. When I connect the second monitor to the DVI connector the top
and bottom Gnome panels shift to the DVI monitor, but the rest of the
desktop remains on the VGA monitor. If I unplug the second monitor the
panels do not move back to the VGA monitor. I can move from the primary
monitor to the second monitor by moving the mouse of the right edge so
everything seems to work fine, but it's confusing having part of the desktop
on one monitor and part on the other.
Is there anyway to force the Gnome panels to stay on the primary monitor and
not shift to the second monitor?
I'm running the F12 nouveau driver.
Trying to configure the primary monitor input as DVI failed with it
indicating no signal and connecting the second monitor to VGA resulted in it
indicating it did not support that resolution.

Thunderbird and Junk folder
by Suvayu Ali
Hi everyone,
I was trying to find my Junk mail folder to check for any mislabelled
messages, but couldn't find it. I access 3 email accounts; Gmail, Zimbra
and I am not sure what the third one is (work related), the Junk Mail
folder is missing in all three. I can however see the Junk folder from
Kmail.
I am using Thunderbird 3 on F11 x86_64. Any ideas what might be wrong?

F8: CPAN problem
by Dan Thurman
To make a long story short, I was trying to get procmail support added to my
sendmail base in order to get maildir (instead of mbox), and in one of the
instructions on the website it said to install CPAN as follows:
# perl -MCPAN -e shell
Well, I did go through this and it all seemed to work fine,
except in various places where there was NOT OK reported
during the building of certain modules.
I was told to do this as root user, and noticed that it built
/root/.cpan and /root/perl and it probably added stuff to the
/usr/lib/perl paths but I am not certain of that.
Since I was not able to complete this CPAN process, I blew
away the above two directories in /root, restarted the process
and then I got this:
# perl -MCPAN -e shell

On reboot, I got reports in various services being started up and
it appears to display the same information as above.
What can I do to remove or clean up this mess?
It was not until later I discovered perhaps it was not
wise to mix the CPAN method with the CPAN rpms,
but I guess it is a bit too late now.
Kind regards,
Dan
