by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
Since I upgrade from fc13 to fc14, I cannot connect to the network !
I get:
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0: Active connection state: activating
Active connection path: /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/3
(process:2184): WARNING **: _nm_object_get_property: Error getting 'State'
for /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/3: (19) Method "Get"
with signature "ss" on interface "org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't
exist
Could you please tell me what is going wrong ?
Thank.

Is pulseaudio required for audio playback and capture?
by Kevin Martin
The subject says it all. Is pulseaudio required for audio playback and capture?
I have a Toshiba Qosmio that has a built-in microphone that I can't get to work and I'm about half convince my problem is pulseaudio
related.
Thanks.

Why is Fedora continuing to propagate FF 3.5 on F12?
by Paolo Galtieri
F12 updated FF to version 3.5.15, however, when you start up FF on F12
it tells you that FF 3.5 is out of date and you should instead download
version 3.6.
If FF 3.5 is out of date why continue to update it? Why not replace it
with version 3.6?

The windows disappears one Second after you click on them , you can't

Problems exporting directories from Fedora 8
by Doll, Margaret Ann
I had to install Fedora 8 on a system because its version of glibc was
necessary for some third party software that we needed to use.
I am trying to export some of the directories from the Fedora system, so
that I can get the files backed up.
My server to which I am trying to export the files is a RedHat system which
already has RedHat and Umbuntu directories mounted on it. So the problem is
not with the RedHat system.
Fedora 8 no longer has portmap but uses rpcbind instead. The error message
that I get when rpcbind is started up implies that I should start rpcbind as
"rpcbind -w". I changed the /etc/init.d/rpcbind file to do this.
Then I get an error message saying that the /var/...rpcbind.file has the
wrong permissions. I changed the permissions to rwxrw rw. I still get the
permissions problem.
On the server, the "mount filesystem" gives me no error message, but
nothing is mounted.
How does one get Fedora 8 to export directories?
Thanks

I have lost the ability to save music in MP3 format
by Paul Otheim
Hello,
I have been out of the loop with the latest news on Fedora and open source
for sometime. Maybe a month ago, I lost the ability to create MP3's.
I though initially it was just affecting Rhythmbox but Sound Juicer also can
no longer save music in an MP3 format. I did some light
searching via google but have yet to find a solution. I scanned the archives
for the last few months but if anyone else is having this issue
then I have missed it. It was working one day then it wasn't , I have the
gstreamer plugins ugly and bad, ffmpeg. Anyway it was working and I
have not removed any packages, so I am not sure what happened.
On a free software note, aside from rockbox, which doesn't support my music
player, does anyone know of another similar alternative that works across
a larger hardware base. I am not particularly fond of mp3's and would prefer
to just rip in ogg format anyway, assuming I could get my player to play
them of course.
Thanks,
Paul

Oh my oh my have I got a story for you
There's a cat, a dog, and a hat
A neat trick if you watch through the act
Only so many ways to pass the days
A storm cloud, a lightning bolt, and a thunderous fact
Squinting through the wind and sleet
I saw a lovely lady dancing naked across the plain
A smile on her face and a song on her lips ....
If only there was more time and the sig wasn't costing me mine

Random FC13 to FC14 upgrade issues
by Robert Myers
1. X output through ssh tunnel from upgraded FC14 to FC13 crashed an
FC13 X-server (but not a Cygwin X-server). Upgrading the FC13 client
to FC14 "fixed" this problem.
2. FC13 to FC14 "upgraded" using an installation disk wound up with a
long list of yum errors from which no apparent recovery was possible.
3. FC13 to FC14 upgraded using preupgrade (different computer) went smoothly.
