Socksify like program for Fedora?
by lancebaynes87
I need a program that allows me to pass an application through a socks server, even if the program does not have native socks support. Under Ubuntu I can use socksify for this. What can I use under Fedora?
Thank you!

on my phone thats a non-issue - I dont have a linux box with multiple

Definitely can do that with google .. I've used it. In fact on my
android phone, by default I turned on the option for all international
calls use google voice automatically (cheaper than my phone carrier)

Calling yes same price as skype - creating a number I don't know which
countries are currently supported.

dont understand - they all do don't they?

Yah - haven't seen that option .. but I have not looked.

yum problems

Dear Fedora Users,
I'm just puzzled from an error I get from yum:

* rpmfusion-nonfree: mirror.switch.ch
* rpmfusion-nonfree-updates: mirror.switch.ch
* updates: mirror.switch.ch
Error: no such table: packages
up to yesterday everything was working correctly and apart from the
dayly updating of my fedora13 I didn't change anything.
Moreover any operation (repolist, list, install, update, ...) I got the
same error message.
Any idea on how to solve the problem?

wvdial does not disconnect after ctrl-c
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I have been using wvdial (briefly) and I have a strange outcome when I
disconnect. This happens about 90% of the time. About 10% of the time,
it exits cleanly and everything is fine, but my question pertains to
the other 90%.
So, I hit ctrl-c and get the following
^CCaught signal 2: Attempting to exit gracefully...
%
There is no wvdial process anymore.
$ killall wvdial
wvdial: no process found
However, the connection is not terminated (the meter is running), and indeed,
$ ps aux | grep wvdial
root 2024 0.0 0.0 50616 2344 pts/0 S 08:39 0:00 /usr/sbin/pppd 230400 modem crtscts defaultroute usehostname -detach user 1 noipdefault call wvdial usepeerdns idle 3600 logfd 6 remotename 0
maitra 2156 0.0 0.0 103376 828 pts/0 S+ 08:56 0:00 grep --color=auto wvdial
So, how should I really disconnect wvdial now?
I am using a very up-to-date Fedora 14 on a (IBM) Lenovo Thinkpad T61
(on which sound has never worked after Fedora 13).
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

wallpaper sync for workspaces?
by Beartooth
Till very recently, I've always used a single desktop background,
varying from PC to PC and keeping all windows less than full-screen (if
only a little less). That was a convenient way to keep track of which
machine I might be KVM-switched to.
Then I decided to try wallpapoz, with a different background for
each workspace; I like that, too.
But it gets confusing. I'd like to do two things.
First, I would have a standard set of backgrounds, with for
instance a shot of the Appalachian Trail in spring on workspace #1 of all
machines. Is there an easy way to do that much? Copy .wallpapoz over the
LAN to each machine??
But then I'd need to differentiate again -- say, for instance, by
putting a blaze orange "1" in the bottom left corner of all 16 workspaces
on machine #1, a "2" on #2, and so forth. Is there an easier way to do
such a thing than by opening all 16 backgrounds in the GIMP?
Finally, if the Gnome developers persist in not letting us have a
standard set of dedicated workspaces, alike in all sessions on all
machines, is there a way to do the like in KDE?? It does seem to have
something like a workspace switcher, which is better than none.

qdbus QStringList
by Dj YB
Hello,
I am trying to write a bash script using qdbus but cant figure out how to send
a QStringList
tried the following:
"1" "2"
"1","2"
"1";"2"
("1","2")
(1,2)
"1"
"2"
1
2
none of the above worked.
I am sure I have already asked that before but I could not find the thread.
thanks in advance,
