Excessive system usage problem -
by Bob Goodwin
I have a home LAN and limited internet access. If I exceed the
usage specified in my subscription my data rates are slowed.
There are a dozen devices that can connect to the internet and
five or six people using them. yesterday someone left something
running and by the time I realized the problem we had used more
than a gigabyte which doesn't sound like much if you have
unlimited usage but we only get 17 gigs per month.
I shut down the other computers but never identified which one
had been causing the problem.
Can someone suggest a way of measuring usage per device,
identifying them by address, MAC, or uuid? I really need to know
which one is the offender to control the problem.

what do you mean? F13 should boot automatically if it is the default.
Did you choose the F14 stanza?
Did it then fail? what error?

Bonsoir,
Sometimes ago I asked a question about bluetooth on f14 (hid2hci) and
got no answer... I don't complain; after all every computer has its own
problems....
But I solved my problem.
I have a bluetooth icon in the gnome bar with a red cross on it when I
login. So I (everybody could) think that bluetooth is not enabled, but....
clicking on the icon I have only one choice: disable bluetooth !!???
After disabling bluetooth (red cross is still there), if I click, I can
enable bluetooth: this is logic! (The preceding steps are not..)
And.... bluetooth is working and my bluetooth mouse is available!
Alleluiah!
But is it a right way to proceed? Maybe for gnome people.

cannot boot to F14
by Michael Hennebry
I messed up installing F14 and don't know how to fix it.
What I had planned to do was reuse a /boot partition and put the rest
in a single new partition I had already created for the purpose.
I forgot about the /boot partition and I think I told it the
wrong thing when it asked where to put the bootloader.
I'm reasonably certain that it is recored somewhere,
but I don't know where and google has not been my friend.
Now I can only boot to F13, using the original /boot .
I tried to fix it by copying and editing stuff from
the F14:/boot to F13:/boot, but it hasn't helped.
I can still boot to F13, but when I got for F14,
I get a file not found error.
Of course, the particular file is not mentioned.
The F14 partition is /dev/sdb9 which I mound on /media/b9 .
Do I have to reinstall?
The following information is probably a bit much,
but I don't know enough to reduce it.
root@localhost media]# mount /dev/sdb9 b9
[root@localhost media]# cd b9/boot

It also has the swapoff complaint.

Strange df output
by Daniele Guerrieri
Hi,
my Fedora 15 is installed on /dev/sda11, which is the rootfs; why df
-h or cat /etc/mtab
produces this output?
Does anybody know what's the meaning of:
'rootfs Mounted on /' and
'/dev/sda11 mounted on /tmp, /var/tmp, /home' ?
How can /dev/sda11 be mounted on /home and /tmp and /var/tmp ?
Here the strange output:
------------Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
********rootfs 20G 9.9G 9.2G 52% /
-------------udev 489M 0 489M 0% /dev
-------------tmpfs 496M 304K 496M 1% /dev/shm
-------------tmpfs 496M 716K 496M 1% /run
********/dev/sda11 20G 9.9G 9.2G 52% /
-------------tmpfs 496M 0 496M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
-------------tmpfs 496M 0 496M 0% /media
********/dev/sda11 20G 9.9G 9.2G 52% /tmp
********/dev/sda11 20G 9.9G 9.2G 52% /var/tmp
********/dev/sda11 20G 9.9G 9.2G 52% /home
This is an extract of /etc/fstab:
UUID=98d28139-f7f9-4e77-8cc6-15c75bdb0f31 / ext4
defaults 1 1
the /dev/disk/by-uuid/98d2... is a soft link to /dev/sda11, to confirm
that /dev/sda11 is rootfs.
Can I unhide the real /dev/sda11 between rootfs or it is a kernel behaviour?
Thanks,
Daniele

Alps Electric touchpad and Fedora 15
by Alexander Volovics
I am looking at 2 laptops with an Alps touchpad and Fedora 15 + Gnome 3:
1) Dell Inspiron 1764 with Intel Core i5-430M
2) Dell Vostro 3750 with Intel Core i5-2410M (Sandy Bridge)
1) is almost 2 years older than 2) so I suspect the same goes
for the Alps Electric touchpad.
On both laptops the Alps is "recognized" as a PS/2 mouse.
In general this works good though I have not checked if
all the functionality of the touchpad is available.
My question concerns the entry "Mouse and Touchpad" under
"System Settings" (gnome-control-center).
In 1) clicking on this icon gives you a configuration window
with entries for mouse AND touchpad (with rather skimpy options).
In 2) clicking on this icon ONLY shows a mouse configuration window.
Why this difference? It also shows up in the hardware listings.
On 1) I find PS/2 mouse AND Alps. On 2) I only see PS/2 mouse.
Newer Alps? Sandy Bridge?

wireless cards recommendation
by Zoran Spasojevic
Hello everyone,
I nave been using ndiswrapper for years.
I would like to get a new wireless card before I install fc 15.
I was wondering if anyone would recommend a good wireless
card that uses 64 bit drivers that come with fedora.
I would like to stop using ndiswrapper.
Thanks in advance,
Zoran
