What happened to my printer!?!
by Alan Evans
Hello all,
Sometime in the last couple of weeks, I lost my ability to print to the
office printer. If I check (KDE) System Settings, the printer's status
reads, "Paused - 'Unable to connect to CIFS host after (tried 3 times)'".
Everybody else can still use this printer, and there have been no major
network reconfiguration events recently. I can't figure out how to bring
this back online.
I tried to simply re-add the long-existing printer again, but the "Add a
New Printer" dialog won't let me browse the network for any printers at
all. The [Browse] button under "Windows Printer via SAMBA" is greyed out,
so I would have to type the URI by hand. But the URI is correct in the
configuration of the current, non-working, printer, as far as I know.
Is there any way to figure out why the current printer is offline, beyond
"Unable to connect"? Not being able to print is really messing with my
workflow.

Fedora 19: qtconfig has no "Oxygen" option
by hobbesc7@gmail.com
I installed a new Gnome F19 desktop. qtconfig has no "Oxygen" option.
Why? qtcreator itself looks great, but when I build and run Qt4 apps, they
look terrible. On F15 I ran Qt4 apps under Gnome3, and didnt' have this
problem.

3D open source case designer
by Zoltan Hoppar
Hi,
Anyone knows a good case desinger that can be used directly for CNC
machines? I would like to use plywood, or oak for my project - but I
couldn't find possibly usable Freecad like or more closer software.
Some ideas?
Thx,
Zoltan

dl-604 as a switch/hub
by bruce
Greetings!
I know this isn't strictly a fedora issue! But I'm trying to setup (if
possible) an old dlink dl-604 4 port router as a dumb switch/hub.
Basically, all I want to be able to do is plug the device into my
network, and then plug 2-3 additional fedora boxes into the 4ports
I've disabled the dhcp settings on the box:
-set the static ip of the box to be 192.168.5.200
-set the gateway to be 192.168.5.254
-set the dns to be 8.8.8.8 (google)
-turned off every filter I could find
-plug the computers/main eth into the lan ports only
the network for this system/test already uses dhcp on 192.168.5.x
the 1923.168.5.200 isn't used so using it for the box should be ok.
the issue I have, is that I can only see one of the boxes when I plug
both in, as if there's a conflict of some sort. Pluging one or the
otther works, so I know the boxes/eth cards are ok.
Thoughts/comments...
thanks!
============================
The basic setup would be:
dlink :dl-604
eth: 192.168.5.200 <<<<<<+
^
^
dell-1 ^
eth: 192.168.5.14 ----->>> ^
dell-1 ^
eth: 192.168.5.17 ---->>> ^
^
^
^
main eth ------------------------>>>+
I've seen a great deal of 'net articles that state this should be
easily doable. So I'm not sure of what the exact issue is.
Appreciate any pointers/comments..

grub2 how to get into command-line-interface?
by Jackson Byers
exactly how do I get into grub command-line-interface?
I am working from f16;
(still struggling with f19netinst; partially done but not booting)
I haven't had much trouble with the menu-interface,
but I would like to start exploring the command-line
This should be obvious, but not to me

/dev/root does not exist when doing a remote install
by dwoody1
I am trying to do a remote install of Fedora 19 using an iso on the
/home directory (/dev/sda2). The only thing I have found during my
searches is setting /dev/root up for a cdrom/dvd.
Currently the computer is running Centos 6.4.
This is the entry in grub:
title Remote Install
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-remote lang=en_US keymap=us
repo=hd:sda2:/install/Fedora-19-i386-DVD.iso ks=hd:sda2:/install/ks.cfg
ip=10.10.10.10 netmask=255.255.255.0 gateway=10.10.10.250
hostname=work.home.com nameserver=127.0.0.1,208.67.222.222 noselinux
ramdisk_size=8192 panic=30
initrd /boot/initrd-remote.img
Do I have an error in the syntax?
How and where do I fix the /dev/root failure?
Thanks,
David

Mock has aborted with an error and is advising you to have a look into
the log files under /var/lib/mock/fedora-19-x86_64/result
Typically you will want to check build.log and root.log.
If a package dependency is missing you'll find a corresponding error
message in root.log. If something went wrong during the build, build.log
should contain the necessary infos.
Ralf
"root.log" returns a lot of information but I don't see what the fault is.
It's not critical, I have a working copy of gnofin, I was just hoping to
find a way around working through all the dependencies it requires to
make it work. Don't know if that will even be possible in the future,
Fedora-20 and beyond.
It appears I've been using the application since Fedora-5 and perhaps
earlier ...
I keep notes so this isn't a completely wasted exercise, I may be able
to apply this information eventually.
Thanks for the help,
Bob

list rpms question
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I have a question: if I do a rpm -qa texlive\* I get the following:
texlive-ncntrsbk-svn28614.0-0.1.fc19.noarch
texlive-texconfig-svn29764.0-0.1.fc19.noarch
texlive-pdftools-bin-svn30088.0-0.1.20130608_r30832.fc19.i686
texlive-dvicopy-bin-svn30088.0-0.1.20130608_r30832.fc19.i686
texlive-filehook-svn24280.0.5d-0.1.fc19.noarch
....
And so on. My question is: how do I get the rpms names without the part
-svn...etc etc.
Why do I want this? It is because I want a list of these rpms to make
future installs easy. So, I could have a list of these rpms, put a
\ after each line, and then add yum install and then be done in one
line.
Many thanks for answering the question!
Best wishes,
Ranjan
