Strange behavior after "Ctrl | Alt | F2 - Alt | F1" key sequence...
by Steven P. Ulrick
Hello Everyone,
I hit "Ctrl | Alt | F2" to get to a non-graphical console. For a long
time now, pressing "Alt | F1" would bring me back to the graphical
environment. Since I fedup'd to Fedora 20, lots of times (maybe not
always) when I press "Alt | F1" instead of being taken back to
graphical mode, I am taken to a blue screen with the Fedora logo in the
center. I have not been able to figure out how to get that screen to
go away. There is no discernible way to interact with this screen.
I've tried typing, the esc key, dragging with my mouse, even pressing
"Ctrl | Alt | F2" to get me back to a non-graphical console. None of
this works, and I have to reboot.
I have never seen this behavior until Fedora 20.

System is booting up. See "pam_nologin(8)"
by Steven P. Ulrick
Hello, Everyone
I don't know if this happens every time I log out and then back in, but
it has happened a few times. When I type in my password and hit enter,
a little box pops up that says "pam_nologin(8)" This is kind of
annoying, because the only workaround that I have found thus far is
rebooting...
Any ideas?

Use firewall-cmd to filter by MAC address?
by Michael Hannon
Greetings. In a previous version of Fedora I had iptables rules of the
form:
-A INPUT -p tcp --destination-port 25 -m mac --mac-source \
AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF -j ACCEPT
in order to accept email only from selected local systems.
I've just installed Fedora 20, and I'm trying to implement the same kind of
thing using:
firewall-cmd
but I've been unable to figure out how to do this. Any thoughts?
Thanks,

F20 in VirtualBox VM
by Greg Woods
I am running VirtualBox under F19, and I wanted to try F20 in a VM, but
I can't get it to install. With both the Live ISO and the full DVD iso,
if I point the virtual DVD drive at the ISO, it boots into the main
syslinux/Anaconda menu, but as soon as I select "Install Fedora", the
screen goes black and nothing ever happens. Has anyone installed F20
into a VirtualBox VM?
Thanks,

Gnome login hangs F20 after fedup upgrade
by David Highley
We upgraded a test system to Fedora 20 using the fedup process. There
were 60 packages that were left from Fedora 19 after the upgrade that
were subsequently fixed by doing a yum distro-sync. Since the upgrade we
are not able to login into a Gnome session. We select the user in the
greater and it prompts for the pass word. After that it goes to the
grayed background and hangs leaving the user session in a hung state
where you have cursor control but the session setup does not get to the
point where you can select anything.
We have checked the logs and see nothing in the logs that indicate an
issue. The other change noticed is the monitor never goes to sleep when
the greater screen is active.

F20: yum update does not automatically update grub2
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I updated using yum last night and while the new 3.12.5 kernel was
installed, it does not show up on grub. So, I did the following:
sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
Generating grub.cfg ...
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.12.5-302.fc20.x86_64
Found initrd image: /boot/initramfs-3.12.5-302.fc20.x86_64.img
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.11.10-301.fc20.x86_64

initrd

What is causing this not to happen automatically when yum updates the
kernel? What do I fix to get this issue taken care of?
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

x2go fedora howto
by Neal Becker
I'm trying to test x2go on f20, but doc is very thin.
I installed x2goserver on server, and x2goclient on client. When I try to
create a session, I just get a textbox with this message:
The host key for this server was not found but an othertype of key exists. An
attacker might change the default server key toconfuse your client into thinking
the key does not exist
I then read that freenx-server was needed, so I installed that on the server.
I did not configure any packages on the server (is any config needed?)
