serious scriptlet problems with today's updates
by Mark Haney

I'm not sure I've ever seen this problem before doing updates, but
here it is. I just ran my usual morning yum update on my primary
server at home and I get 3 packages bomb with scriptlet errors during
the update.
Virtually every update in the clean process puked with scriptlet
failures and 3 didn't update either cleanly or at all. I've attached
the output since it's pretty long.
My question is, WTF happened? My system is pretty clean. I never
install packages by hand, only by either the standard Fedora repos or
RPMFusion. These were all Fedora repo updates, FWIW. Did anyone else
see this?

nfs mounts fail at boot if bind is running....
by Ed Greshko
I suppose this is more of an FYI until I can determine where the bugzilla goes.....
If you use a "hostname" in your fstab for nfs mounts and your system is running bind and the resolv.conf is set to 127.0.0.1 the nfs mounts will fail at boot time. This is true even if you have NetworkManager-wait-online enabled and an entry for the host in the hosts file.
Examining the journal shows that the mount attempt happens prior to named getting started, obviously. :-)
Sort of leaning towards a systemd bugzilla

creating unreachable routes with NetworkManager
by Wolfgang S. Rupprecht
Back when I ran my server with the networking scripts instead of
NetworkManager it was easy to add unreachable routes. I'd put lines
like the following:
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-lo:
unreachable 10.0.0.0/8
unreachable 172.16.0.0/16
unreachable 192.168.0.0/16
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route6-lo:
unreachable fc00::/7
When lo was enabled, I'd get those unreachable routes loaded (and a few
others that the networking scripts added for me.) Now with
NetworkMisManager I don't get either my unreachalbes or the formerly
built-in ones.
Is there a trick I'm missing? Obviously I could do an "ip route add"
from a private systemd service, but that seems a bit heavy handed.
(The reason I need to add the unreachables is that my ISP doesn't send
me network unreachables for private addresses. For laptops on the go,
they sometimes get routable IPv6 addresses as well as unroutable IPv4
addresses. I use nsupdate to register my laptop's current addresses in
DNS and when private addresses show up it would be nice for things like
"ssh laptop" to quickly move on from the private addresses without a
very long timeout.)

SELinux RPM scriptlet issue cleanup
by Ian Pilcher
So I picked the wrong time to upgrade my laptop from F19 to F20 via yum!
The result was a very large number of RPM scriptlet failures. I've
worked around the fatal errors (with 'setenforce 0'), and I've since
updated my SELinux policy to the updates-testing version that does not
have the problem.
The system appears to be working just fine, but I can't help being a bit
concerned about the possibility of leftover garbage files and/or lurking
problems.
Are there any steps I can/should take to clean up the system?
Thanks!

Do THIS so your updates work again
by Jorge Fábregas
Hello guys,
I was having some errors while updating/removing some packages. The RPM
scriplets wouldn't run. It turns out it's an SElinux policy bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1054350
If you installed the recent selinux-policy update (1-2 days ago):
selinux-policy-targeted-3.12.1-116.fc20.noarch
..you might be facing the issue. In order to fix it you must:
setenforce 0
yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update selinux-policy-targeted
setenforce 1
..for things to get back to normal. This will update the package to:
selinux-policy-targeted-3.12.1-117.fc20.noarch

backup thoughts..
by bruce
hi.
looking to be able to backup a number of machines running fed (and
possibly other linux flavors)
I'm considering some sort of agent process, where the owner/user can
define the dirs that the owner wants backed up. This kind of approach
would allow us to be able to track when things get backed up, as well
as what's getting backed up.
The downside of this, we don't want to backup all of the OS tree, but
at the same time, if a dev has created apps that toss stuff into the
"OS" tree, it might not get backed up, unless specified...

Missing dialog title bar
by Marco Maccaferri
Hi,
I'm using Fedora 20 and I've noticed that some dialogs don't have a
title bar anymore. Initially I tought it was an issue with a specific
application but after some testing I found that all modal dialogs don't
have a title bar, while modeless dialogs (and application windows) have
the title bar.
Since this is the first Gnome 3 installation I have ever done, I'm a bit
lost at understanding what is the cause of this issue. Is it the new
GTK3 ? It is Gnome3 itself ? It is the theme ?
In the gnome tweak tool I have set:
Window: Clearlooks-Phenix
GTK+: Adwaita
Shell theme: None (Default)
Is there a setting that restores the title bar for modal dialogs ?
Regards,
Marco.

I agree.

perl-PLPLOT
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I updated my machine to fc20 and now my praphics application fails:
Even the example:
use PDL;
use PDL::Graphics::PLplot;
my $pl = PDL::Graphics::PLplot->new (DEV => "png", FILE => "test.png");
my $x = sequence(10);
my $y = $x**2;
$pl->xyplot($x, $y);
$pl->close;
fails:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
