Is there an app in Fedora that will grab an image from an webcam and use it as wallpaper?
by stan
There's a site with lots of webcams from all over the world,
http://www.webcamgalore.com .
I would like to use periodic grabs of some of those webcams as a
wallpaper. Say, every 10 seconds the app goes and grabs an image from
the cam, and puts it as wallpaper. If offline, or the cam is not
available, it does nothing, leaving the existing image as wallpaper.
I currently use wallpapoz, and it works fine, using wonderful images
I've accumulated. But it would be neat to watch the waves roll in at
Huntington Beach, or view ships traversing the Panama canal, or see
the Japan snow monkeys at the hot spring, or watch fish swim in a coral
reef, or ...
I did a quick search, and nothing obvious presented itself, so I doubt
there is such software. But maybe it's just obscure.
Anyone know of such?
Thanks.

set the tmp file for sed??
by bruce
Hey.
I know. This is probably really basic/subtle, but 'net searches are
coming up empty.
Doing testing of 'sed' it's generating tmp files in the base
directory. Is there a way that the 'sed' tmp dir can be set to '/tmp'.
A sample sed cmd would be
sed -i '/foo/cat/g' abc.dat
sed -i '/foo/d' abc.dat
thanks..

How do I install rpmfusion packages in Fedora 23 beta?
by William Oliver
Just for kicks, I decided to play a bit with Fedora 23 beta. Yes, I know it's not supposed to work like a production distro, but I thought it would be fun to poke around on it a little. I sorta need to install a couple of packages from rpmfusion, though. Unfortunately, they don't have a Fedora 23 setup out yet.
I tried to install the Fedora 22 repositories, but it didn't work.
I get the error:
Failed to synchronize cache for repo 'rpmfusion-free' from
'http://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/mirrorlist?repo=free-fedora-23&arch=x86_64':
Cannot prepare internal mirrorlist: No URLs in mirrorlist, disabling.
So, how would I go about, say, installing mplayer in Fedora 23 beta?
Thanks!

Linux on a Mac - restoring via rsync produces an unbootable laptop
by CS DBA
Hi all;
Recently I installed Fedora 21 on a macbook pro, it worked pretty well.
I take regular backups via an rsync of the entire system to an external
drive. After an update I had an issue I could not easily resolve so I
restored the last rsync of the system. On other laptops this simply
returns the system to what it was like at the time of the backup,
however on the macbook it rendered it un-bootable, it simply booted to a
mac error screen
Anyone know what I did wrong? Is there a different approach I need to
take for backups?
Thanks in advance

AVC denial and the suggested actio to take (by the setroubleshoot details) window
by JD
After getting AVC denial, I touched /.autorelabel and rebooted.
Took about 5 minutes to finish re-labeling.
Then, I started to ge more AVC denials.
I clicked on the denial icon and read the details.
Could someone please explain the argument in the suggested "solution" :
restorecon -v '#SharedObjects'
What in tarnation is '#SharedObjects'
The man page for semanage and for restorcon do not even
make use of such notation.
So, how is a user going to correctly interpret the meaning
of such an opaque item as '#SharedObjects' ?
The selinux troubleshoot says: (but does not explain where the
#SharedObjects directory is )
If you want to allow plugin-containe to have read access on the
#SharedObjects directory
Then you need to change the label on #SharedObjects
Do
# semanage fcontext -a -t FILE_TYPE '#SharedObjects'

gnote gnome-shell extension or systray icon
by Roman
Hello. Last time i used gnome(it was gnome2), gnote/tomboy had support
of systray and there was easy way to edit/create notes, but now i need
launch app everytime and go to needed note via app ui. I must say that
way to work with notes far from perfect. So, is there any hidden way to
get back systray icon or gnome-shell extension? Im using fedora22 with
all latest updates.

xorg usb /dev/input device not recognized
by Roman
Hi all. I have Asus Xonar U7 usb soundcard, it has wheel for volume
up/down and 2 mechanical buttons which are not important for me. Kernel
recognized em as:
dmesg | grep -i xonar
[ 2.044929] usb 3-1.4.3: Product: Xonar U7
[ 2.055070] input: ASUS Xonar U7 as

Imho those imput devices should be catched by xorg and available to
userspace(gnome in my case) for volume settings up, but totally ignored
- tested with xev. Here`s xorg.log
grep -i xonar /var/log/Xorg.0.log

So i wanna ask some help with it, wanna c it working :-) also its
proven to work on laptop with other distro.
Im using fedora22(gnome) with all latest updates.

SELinux alert
by Beartooth
The SELinux troubleshooter is telling me (for the first time
afaik) that something called console-kit-dae has tried five times to
write to /var/lib/dbus.
Details :
SELinux is preventing console-kit-dae from write access on the directory /

If you believe that console-kit-dae should be allowed write access on the
