Fedora 24 Design Suite
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I wanted to try out the Design Suite for my MS Surface Pro 3 because I am thinking that it may handle things like the stylus better. However, https://labs.fedoraproject.org/design-suite/download/index.html says that
"Although this spin failed to compose for the final release, the nightly test compose contains the same package set, and should meet most users' needs. You can verify the test compose image with a dedicated CHECKSUM file for 64-bit and 32-bit images."
so I am not sure what to do.
Is this an old message that is no longer true? If true, why not replace the spin with a later version that actually built?
Many thanks,
Ranjan

Grub2 UEFI PXE chainloader unloading Network Stack when chainloading
an EFI module
by Leandro Gustavo Biss Becker
Hello.
I'm trying to use a newer version of GRUB2 (grub2-efi-2.02-0.34.fc24.x86_64) for UEFI PXE booting Linux (Clonezilla) and also a custom UEFI application (custom shell) that needs access to the TCP4 UEFI stack in firmware (depends of the scenario). Using older versions of GRUB2 it is working, but with newer versions, when it chainloads the custom UEFI application all the UEFI Network Protocols are gone (error 14 when calling gBS->LocateProtocol(&gEfiPxeBaseCodeProtocolGuid, ...).
I need the newer version because the new netboot capabilities that looks for a cfg file using the MAC Address as grub.cfg-01-AA-BB-CC-DD-EE-FF.
Is newer versions of grub2 unloading UEFI protocols (maybe calling UEFI's Boot Services ExitBootServices) before chainloading UEFI applications?
PS: Is this the correct forum for this matter?
My best regards,
Leandro Becker.

OT: grep and regex patterns
by Mike Wright
Hi all,
There is a file with a collection of links from global sites. While
trying to sort the links into categories I'm catching the wrong things.
e.g. find links from India:
PATTERN="^.*http:\/\/.*\.in.*$"
grep $PATTERN < file.of.links >links.in
Even though the "." in front of "in" is escaped with "\" PATTERN is
catching any text containing "in". This is obviously not what is intended.
Any one out there point me to the error of my ways?
TIA,
Mike Wright

cron -- abrt issue
by bruce
Hey..
Testing some code (python).
Created a simple test cron to run the app. The app runs from the cmdline as
the user, so in the cmd world, env vars, user privs/etc.. are good.
However, from the cron process, I get the following. The logs --
/var/log/messages indicate the abrtd process is deleting the tmp dir.. so I
can't see what it's complaining about..
Any thoughts on how to resolve this..

Systemctl status network.service Displays Wrong Timestamp on Output

by Stephen Morris
Hi,
Below are the messages I get when I issue command 'systemctl status
network.service'. The time stamp on the messages is incorrect by 1 hour,
can anyone tell me why?
Also the messages have indicated that interface Linksys07468_5Ghz
was able to be activated ok (this is the 5GHz wifi interface to my
router), if that is the case why is that wifi connection not usable, and
why has it not listed the Linksys07468 interface which my 2.4GHz wifi
interface to my router, which networkmanager will quite happily
activate, whereas networkmanager refuses to activate the
Linksys07468_5Ghz interface.

ssm resize luks on lvm...
by Morgan Read
Hello folks, long time no post... (Mailman has changed...)
So, big question re ssm and LUKS on LVM - I'm looking to increase /var
by 3G and create another LUKS volume for /usr/local of 3G.
I've reduced the size of two file-systems by 3G each: /home and /
And, then the LVMs on top.
The LVM on top of volume /var seems to have been expanded from 3G to 6G
and the LVMs on top of /home and / seem to have been reduced by 3G, but
the volumes /home and / are still showing a 3G difference between their
volume and file-system sizes...
I'm now attempting to increase the size of /var by 3G from 3G to 6G, but
no joy - no doubt I've got my logic on the what, were and how mixed up...
Terminal output of my commands to date are below - any help on where to
next would be very much appreciated :)
Thanks
Morgan

application to listen to on-line broadcasts?
by William Mattison
Good morning,
I've been wanting to listen to live streaming FM-radio broadcasts
on-line. I'm using Firefox (current as of last Thursday) and f-23
(current as of last Thursday). If it matters, I'm using Gnome.
One I've tried is here: "http://www.wbjc.com/". When I click the
"iTunes/mp3" button, a dialogue pops up saying it wants to open
"listen.pls" which is an "MP3 ShoutCast playlist" from
"http://wbjc-sc.streamguys.org", and it launches Rhythmbox. But I can't
get it to give me music.
On the same page, when I click the "Windows Media" button, a dialogue
pops up saying it wants to open "wbjc" which is an "ASF video" from
"http://vista.streamguys.com", and it launches Videos. Nothing more
happens; I can't get Videos to give me music.
I try another station: "http://www.cpr.org/classical". I click the
arrow near the top. I hear nothing. On the
"http://www.cpr.org/listen/streaming" page, I try...
1. the Classical "MP3 Stream" "Listen" option. The pop-up says it's
trying to open "live_classical_mp3.pls" which is a "PLS file" from
"http://livestream.cprnetwork.org". But it doesn't find any application
for such files.
2. the Classical "Windows Media Player Stream" "Listen" option. The
pop-up says it's trying to open "listenClassical.asx" which is an "ASF
video" from "http://livestream.cprnetwork.org", and launches "Videos".
Nothing more happens; I can't get Videos to give me music.
3. the Classical "High-Quality AAC Stream" "Listen" option. The pop-up
says it's trying to open "live_classical_aac.pls" which is a "PLS file"
from "http://livestream.cprnetwork.org". But it doesn't find any
application for such files.
One more site: "http://pipedreams.publicradio.org/listings/2016/1628/".
When I click the "Complete Show" link, I get a little pop-up saying "To
view this content, Javascript must be enabled and Adobe Flash Player
must be installed.". (Javascript is enabled.) I also tried
"http://www.yourclassical.org/programs/pipedreams/episodes". When I
click the Play arrow, I get a message at the bottom of the page saying
"We're sorry, but your browser is not able to play the stream. Please
try one of these options: 1) Install or enable Adobe Flash Player 2) Use
a browser that supports HTML5 and MP3 audio, such as Chrome, Safari, or
Internet Explorer 9 3) download the video. (I thought Forefox does
support html5!)
In fedora, using Firefox, how can I listen to these? What's the best
fedora application for this?
A related issue (I can move this to a separate topic if y'all prefer) I
can't get "Videos" to work with anything. The video area is always
solid black and the audio gives me silence when I put a dvd into the
player, or when something on the web causes Videos to be launched. I
can't find any way of configuring it. How do I get it to work?
Thanks,
Bill.
