VPN options

I am planning on running a Virtual Private Network from my Fedora
firewall out to a UML virtual colo (running RH9) at another site.
That site will be the place I present services to the world;
httpd, ssh, sftp, smtp. This is to comply with the "no servers"
and dynamic ip restrictions on my Comcast connection to the net;
if my firewall always drives an outbound connection to the
colocation site, I am not worried about changes of ip address,
and I am not opening any inbound ports.
There are a number of options for the VPN - the most attractive
are cipe ( http://sites.inka.de/sites/bigred/devel/cipe.html )
and FreeSwan ( http://www.freeswan.org/ ), though I am told that
one can do all this through an ssh tunnel. I would rather have
simple and secure than super-duper; I have plenty of bandwidth,
and will send outbound http and smtp from the firewall, so the
main bandwidth user will be incoming spam/b/b/b/b mail.
Anyone have some experiences to share about setting up VPN? Is
there anything about either cipe or FreeSwan that is likely to
break with FC1 or FC2?

Named GeoIP just got large

trouble with Fedora 31, notebook, and nvidia

I bought a used notebook which came with an Nvidia GPU and I haven't
managed to get it to work with Fedora.
Computer: Dell XPS 15 9580. UltraHD screen. Nvidia GFX 1050 mobile GPU.
1) Fedora 30 installation medium hung.
2) tried Fedora 31 beta. Hung the same way.
3) it seems that nouveau is to blame. Solution: add kernel parameter
nouveau.kms=0.
4) installed Fedora 31 beta. (I've kept it updated, so it is now Fedora 31
non-beta)
Problems:
a) I don't get the advantage of the fast GPU (and the chance of using it
for GPU computing). This isn't an urgent concern.
b) the GPU is apparently powered up and generating heat. This runs down
my battery and causes the fan to run.
Solution?:
i) Install proprietary nvidia driver. I used the negativo17
repositories.
ii) Install BumbleBee to allow switching between the Intel IGPU and the
Nvidia GPU. (I don't think that I've actually used BumbleBee yet.)
Problem:
System hangs on boot when the kernel has nvidia modules (which I've
only done for some kernels, thank goodness).
If I disable Wayland (in /etc/gdm/custom.conf set WaylandEnable to
false), I can boot a kernel with nvidia modules. GDM (the loging
screen) works. It is known that the Nvidia proprietary drives don't
work with Wayland.
If the kernel has nvidia modules, once I log in through GDM, the
machine locks up hard. In particular, I've done this while an SSH
session is also logged in from another machine. That session is
frozen too.
I *think* that the /etc/gdm/custom.conf setting should also prevent
Wayland from being used during the session post-GDM but I don't really
have a way of checking.
==> Is wayland disabled for the session or do I need other magic?
The latest system log entries are lost since the machine freezes
without flushing various filesystem caches.
Any suggestions?

Fedora31 install problem -

I have been trying to install Fedora 31XFCE Spin. I've spent more time
at it than I care to admitbut can"t get the Anaconda installer to see a
clear one terabyte drive. I re-partitioned it with Gparted and gave it
an ext4 file system. The problem seems to be that I don't want LVM,
choosing Standard Partition instead. It seems to want to reformat and
install ext4 again? That's ok but it never happens ...
It just keeps showing 0B used and 0B of free space?
Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong? Is there a command line
method to do the install instead of the GUI?

This problem goes back to last Thursday, so a brief review might be good.

Last Thursday, I tried to upgrade from Fedora-29 to Fedora-30. dnf
complained it didn't have enough space in the '/' filesystem. List
members successfully got me through the upgrade. But the root
problem(s) probably still remains.

Failed to create a dual boot F31 windows 10 on Dell E5540

Hi All,
I tried to make from my Dell lattitude E5540 running windows 10 a dual boot
with F31. Intallation of F31 runned as expected apart form one point: I made
a custom partion layout of the free space and it compalined that my BIOS
needed a small biosboot partition (so I also created that one).
However after the installation the machine was unbootable. I had to chande
the boot mode in the bios form UEFI to legacy to get F31 booted. Windows 10
appeared not bootable anymore.
What did I miss? How should I proceed to get a dual boot machine?

F31 interesting copying speed

Hi,I copy TV films, recorded with my laptop, from the laptop internal disk to external USB2.1 connected disks. Result with Win 10, Win 10 on the laptop internal disk copying speed about 21 mb/sec, copying with F29 (I omitted F30) F29 on an USB3.0 stick, copying speed about 25 mb/sec, F31 on the same USB3.0 stick, leading the copying process from the laptop internal disk to the external disk, about 34mb/sec copying speed.

login to black screen

After updating to F31, I was playing with different display managers. Normally use KDE. I tried deepin, and liked it,
but scaling seemed a bit off. I changed display scaling to 1.5. I was told I needed to logout/in for setting to take effect, which I did.
Then login to deepin all I get is black screen with cursor. Tried login to kde. Same result.
I finally was able to restore my .config directory from a backup (using CLI) and I'm back in business.
My question for this group is, what happened? I wish I knew which config file got messed up so I could fix more easily.

/boot/efi on RAID-1 (mdraid)

I installed F30 on a replacement server with two HDDs. My existing hardware
earned its well-deserved retirement. My replacement hardware is the first
server hardware I'm using that uses EFI and the GPT.
I configured all my partitions with mdraid, including /boot/efi:

I want to make sure that in the event one of the disks fail I'll be able to
boot off the other one. Are any additional steps needed for this, beyond the
ones that were done by F30's installer?
With BIOS I knew I needed to run grub-install to manually install grub on
/dev/sdb in addition to /dev/sda; do I need to do anything analogous to
that, with EFI?
