fedora 35 cura bug? Or pythin bug?
by Tom Horsley
Tried to 3D print something for the first time since switching
to fedora 35, and cura complains about not being able to convert
a python float to a C++ int then the print percentage displayed
on the screen becomes something like -500000%.
I'll have to try a different model to see if it always happens, or
is something specific to just this one.
In any case, it keeps printing OK, just popping up the same error
dialog several times. The final print even came out OK.

## Subject: boot hangs after fedora 33 upgrade | start job is running for /dev/xvda1 (20min 33s / no limit) | Tips pls? I can boot fedora32.
```
What do you suggest I do? I am able to boot the fedora 32 kernel.
How might I cleanup and revert to the preupgrade state -- then
should try skipping over fedora33, and try upgrading to fedora34?
---
I attempted a fedora32 to fedora33 upgrade on host
"kvxgvo-2" which is a xen vps hosted by prgmr.com.
"kvxgvo-2":
Virtualization mode: HVM
Memory: 2048 MiB
VCPUs: 1
Last installed OS: Fedora 32 - 64 bit
Boot option: Disk
Live migration: enabled
The fedora upgrade went normally until it tried to boot the new fedora 33 kernel:
11:50:54 < xoiht> http://sprunge.us/uhyjK0 | start job is running for /dev/xvda1 (20min 33s / no limit) | boot fails after fedora 33 upgrade | help pls
11:55:48 <@alynpost> got your message on support@ as well.
11:56:29 <@alynpost> On the face of it this looks like a kernel regression from Fedora 32 - 33. Could be, of course, a userland issue of some sort. Would be nice to know what's running that
gets hung there.
11:56:46 <@alynpost> To debug this we're likely going to need to bring up a burner Fedora system and do some testing.
12:09:00 < xoiht> alynpost: OK/thx. I saved a log of the console session: http://sprunge.us/VO810K I may have a log of the ssh session for the upgrade itself, I will look ...
12:12:42 <@alynpost> It would be outstanding if the boot produced a log that could be inspected, either by booting in to Fedora 32 or booting in to a rescue image and chrooting in to your
mounted block device.
12:14:53 <@alynpost> What we need to know is what command is hanging; either via manually reading the boot scripts to infer from the console message (A start job is running for
/dev/xvda1...) or finding a log with more detail. Alternatively adding some debug statements / logging and booting back in to Fedora 33.
12:21:58 < xoiht> alynpost: Here is the ssh session log for the "dnf -y system-upgrade download --allowerasing --releasever=33": http://sprunge.us/6nDHcp
12:23:54 < xoiht> alynpost: > It would be outstanding if the boot produced a log | OK I have booted into fed32, I will look around for a log.
12:31:53 < xoiht> alynpost: ls /var/log # see http://sprunge.us/f9T3HD
On Nov 2 I tarred up the recent files below /var/log/ @alynpost has them. I still have a copy.
sudo - sssd - pam_gss_api
by Winfried de Heiden
Hi all,
Since upgrading to Fedora 35 sssd+sudo+gssapi no longer works. In
/etc/sssd/conf:
pam_gssapi_services = sudo, sudo-i
In /etc/pam.d/sudo:
#%PAM-1.0
auth sufficient pam_sss_gss.so
auth include system-auth
account include system-auth
password include system-auth
session optional pam_keyinit.so revoke
session required pam_limits.so
session include system-auth
In /etc/pam.d/sudo-i:
#%PAM-1.0
auth sufficient pam_sss_gss.so
auth include sudo
account include sudo
password include sudo
session optional pam_keyinit.so force revoke
session include sudo
After adding debug to the pam_sss_gss.so module:
sudo -i
pam_sss_gss: sss_cli_getenv() call failed [2]: No such file or
directory
pam_sss_gss: User not found
pam_sss_gss: sss_cli_getenv() call failed [2]: No such file or
directory
pam_sss_gss: User not found
And it will ask for a password.
New bug introduced of something did change?
Hope someone can help!
Victory over GTK!
by Tom Horsley
I mentioned the only annoying thing I wasn't able to fix
in fedora 35 was the selected colors of folders and messages
in claws-mail. Black letters with dark blue background, almost
impossible to read.
I used gimp to pick the color from a screen shot and determined
that the dark blue was #3584e4, so I (eventually) searched for
that string in /usr/lib64/libgtk-3.so.0.2404.26 and got a gazillion
hits (it seems to be a very popular blue), but one of them
was this string:
.gtkstyle-fallback:selected { color: #ffffff; background-color: #3584e4; }
So I stuck that same string in my ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css file
and changed #3584e4 to #bddafc
And now, to my amazement, I have a nice light powder blue selection
instead of a text obscuring dark blue.
Victory at last! (And I won't go blind trying to read my mail).
F35 GNOME screen blank doesn't work properly,
what component to file under?
by Andre Robatino
I did a clean install of F35 Workstation. Screen blank works properly if I am using the machine, turning off the display after 5 minutes. But if the screen is already blank, any notification from any application (Thunderbird email, hexchat alert, dnfdragora updates) causes the display to turn back on, and stay on permanently, until I start using the machine again. The only workaround for now would be to turn the monitor off whenever I'm away. Is anyone else seeing this? I see nothing in Bugzilla, and have no idea what component to file under.
F35 virtual machine viewer?
by Tom Horsley
The nice text top menu is gone replaced with utterly meaningless
icons. Worse yet, when I click on them to see what they mean, the
one that lists a bunch of keys I can have it send is all greyed
out, so I can't (for example) send Ctrl-Alt-Del to my Windows
virtual machine.
Did some low level mechanism for supporting key sending change in f35?
Do I have to modify my virtual machine in some way?
Setting desktop hostname/domainname via DHCP
by Philip Prindeville
Hi.
I had the following /etc/dhcp/dhclient.d/hostname.sh script (root.root and 755):
#!/bin/bash
hostname_config() {
domain_portion="$(echo "${new_host_name}" | cut -s -d. -f2-)"
[ -z "${domain_portion}" ] || return
[ -n "${new_domain_name}" ] || return
logger -p info -t hostname.sh "Setting domainname ${new_domain_name}"
domainname "${new_domain_name}"
}
hostname_restore() {
# nothing to do
:
}
And it had been working until I upgraded from F33 to F34.
I also tried adding the following /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/hostname.sh script (root.root and 755):
#!/bin/bash
# Make sure to run:
# systemctl enable NetworkManager-dispatcher.service
#
log()
{
if [ $# -gt 0 ]; then
logger -i -p daemon.info -t "$PROG" "$@"
else
while read line; do
logger -i -p daemon.info -t "$PROG" "$line"
done
fi
}
PROG="$(basename "$0")"
INTF="$1"
ACTION="$2"
# log "args: '$INTF' '$ACTION'"
# env | sort | log
case "$ACTION" in
hostname)
log "hostname: $(hostname)"
;;
up)
log "up: '${DHCP4_HOST_NAME}.${DHCP4_DOMAIN_NAME}'"
hostname "${DHCP4_HOST_NAME}"
domainname "${DHCP4_DOMAIN_NAME}"
;;
esac
exit 0
After enabling the dispatcher service (still not sure how it got disabled), I run "ifdown ifcfg-ens3" and then "ifup" it again, and see:
So I see my script being run here:
Nov 6 14:37:43 mail hostname.sh[4634]: up: 'mail.redfish-solutions.com'
But then shortly after, this happens:
Nov 6 14:37:44 mail NetworkManager[1946]: <info> [1636231064.8628] policy: set-hostname: current hostname was changed outside NetworkManager: 'fedora'
Nov 6 14:37:44 mail NetworkManager[1946]: <info> [1636231064.8630] policy: set-hostname: set hostname to 'mail' (from DHCPv4)
...
Nov 6 14:37:44 mail systemd-hostnamed[4605]: Hostname set to <localhost.localdomain> (static)
...
Nov 6 14:37:44 mail systemd-resolved[805]: Failed to determine the local hostname and LLMNR/mDNS names, ignoring: No such device or address
So what's going on? And how do I make it just accept the DHCP4 provisioned hostname and domain?
This all worked (using just the dhclient.d/ script)... now with F34 installed nothing does.
Thanks,
-Philip
good/best source for replacement mem/drive
by bruce
Hi.
Thinking of upgrading a laptop.
Any opinions on good/best online to get 8G mem sticks as well as 1G
internal hard drive. Laptop will already have 256 SSD.
Also, anyone have opinions/thoughts on using the USB to LAN
connectors, as opposed to the onboard LAN interface/port?
thanks
