Hello, I noticed this problem after kernel update of 4.14.14. Before the update CPU temp would stay somewhere in 38-48 degrees zone. Since the update however, only when laptop's battery is charging(and I'm using it at the same time) CPU temp gets as high as 60-70 degrees and it eventually causes a crash which forces me to restart. NOTE: I'm not saying this issue is related to the kernel update I'm just saying I noticed it after the update only. My machine: Asus UX301ne laptop CPU: intel Corei7 6500 skylake 2.5GHz Graphics: Intel HD graphics + Nvidia GTX 950m How I tried to solve the problem: Firstly I noticed that when plugged in and charging, Opening up the gnome-settings and clicking on "Details" causes a crash that forces me to restart. I don't know how I can find any info on why that happens. Secondly I think this is somehow related to my hybrid cards and the open-source driver of NVIDIA. Also possibly PRIME. I do not know how I can check this unfortunately. Also Fans Work fine. They go 5400rpm when I plug the charger in. I should say that I don't need the NVIDIA graphics at all! Intel would do... So if there is a way to disable NVIDIA and get rid of this problem It would be allright. Also if possible I would like to avoid non-free drivers. Any help and/or clue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. And one word of advice: Don't buy Hybrid Graphic devices... they're waste of time and money :(

I added the options to the file '/etc/default/grub' and re-installed the boot-loader configuration with grub2-mkconfig. This Solved both of the problems. The overheat as well as the gnome-settings crashing. However this doesn't seem like the best solution since it disabled NVIDIA graphics. As I said I do not use it at all, but there must be a better way to solve this problem. Obviously the problem is either with nouveau or PRIME. Should I report this anywhere as a bug or something? It it simply inadequate cooling? (Warm battery plus warm CPU becomes too warm, together.) Check that cooling fans are running properly, that ventilation isn't blocked (including internal fluff).
