Much to my surprise I was unable to boot my F-20/64bit [box10]
computer this morning.
Booting from rescue on the install DVD shows that there is no user
listed under /home. I was able to add user rfg with a password but
still can't boot normally and user "rfg" is empty anyway.
if you have '/home' as a _partition_, it should show up in root
path when you 'change path' in rescue mode.
if you boot a 'live' disk, to find what you have in _home_ in
_partition_, you will need to mount partition to to see user
directories.
if you do have home in a partition, check '/etc/fstab' to insure
that it is still there.
if '/home' is a partition, when you boot system, do you see it
mount in 'mtab'?
also, look in '/etc' at files 'group', 'gshadow',
'passwd',
'shadow', and 'shadow-npw' to see if user is still listed.
I can't even guess why this has happened and it looks to me like
the simplest thing will be to re-install?
first check above.
Any suggestions before I start that process will be appreciated;
I don't expect much though,
you do have your share of problems. ;-)
