Works for me without root (and I've never used distrobox until now)
Now try with --root

OK, is this really a container running ubuntu? Doesn't seem to be,
there's
no apt-get.
Yep, no apt-get in the default config, but I think you need to add an
additional_packages line in the manifest. That's what the man page
seems to suggest.
