Use system-config-display to configure it. There you can choose that option.
I am using a nx8220 that supports the same resolution and it works a charm. :-)
FWIW:
ModelName "LCD Panel 1680x1050"
HorizSync 31.5 - 90.0
VertRefresh 60.0 - 60.0

not sure if it helps. I have hp nx8220 with 15,1 in display. Settings
from
xorg.conf are:
HorizSync 31.5 - 91.1
VertRefresh 60 - 100
I run on resolution 1280x960.
Hope it works in your case. If not have a look on

That document contains instructions for installing SuSE Linux and Redhat
Enterprise Linux. :)
Thanks José and Christian for your suggestions
Once I tried the resolution I realized I had to use the nofb option to
install then the resolution=1680x1050 worked fine though the monitor
wasn't identified exactly (small wonder brand new). Xorg.conf lists:
HorizSync 31.5 - 65
VertRefresh 50 - 90
With MANY resolution options.
If I set the vertRefresh to 60 - 60 like José suggested what would the effect be?
