Hi everybody, Since an update last week, no WIFI connection appears in my NetworkManager applet. To make WIFI work I must open a term and execute: ifup eth0 I have not moved my laptop, so I suppose that everything works because the connection I use was configured before. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I found it. In system-config-network I update the device eth0, and check the option "Manage by NetworkManager". And of course, save the configuration en File --> Save Good bye, and thank you again. 2009/3/5 Javier Gaiano <gaiano(a)gmail.com>

Thank you Craig for your suggestion. It is a graphical way to enable the device (instead of typing 'ifup'). But the problem in the nm-applet continues. I try to restart NetworkManager service but nothing changes. And finally I kill the nm-applet process and restart it, but network options are still unable. I'm connected with WiFi at this moment, but thought I'd look into this advice. I'm running KDE/Fedora-10. I see I have two menu items that seem to fit the bill: Administration=>Network Configuration and Administration=>Network Device Control The latter is empty, which I find puzzling; it says "The following network interfaces are configured in the active profile", but gives none. The former does list my WiFi device (as eth1), as well as pan0 and eth0 (which are not in use). All three are ticked in the Profile checkbox. It says that the Active profile is Common. As usual, I find the settings obscure. Where is my "Active profile" specified? How would I change it if I wanted to? I see that /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles lists only "default". Your suggestion is interesting but does not seem to be usable,at least, on my machine. I am connected using wireless. The display you get from Administration => Network does not contain the wireless connection. The wired connection eth0 does not have Device controlled by NetworkManager' checked, but when I plug the machine in NM controls the connection.

These are both part of system-config-network and designed only for systemwide network configuration. The most common way to use NetworkManager is per user, not systemwide, and it's configured within NM itself. Kevin Kofler
