Your question may, or may not, have a simple answer. It all depends on what you mean
by "default browser" and the desktop you're using as well as the
applications calling
the browser.
Anyway, I use KDE as my DE and Chrome as my browser. I also use T-Bird for my mail
client where most of the links are that I want to open.
So, the following works for me....
xdg-settings set default-web-browser google-chrome.desktop
xdg-settings set default-url-scheme-handler http google-chrome.desktop
xdg-settings set default-url-scheme-handler https google-chrome.desktop
You would replace the google-chrome.desktop with the appropriate desktop file for
your preferred browser. The desktop file would be located in...
/usr/share/applications/
Thanks, Ed. I did as you suggested, but no luck, unfortunately: I am
using a program that opens on the default browser, and I would like to
have Chrome as the default browser, but the mentioned program always
opens on Firefox.
By the way, I am using XFCE as desktop manager.
