Hi, Has modules.conf become modprobe.conf on FC2? I need to alter something in it and they look alike... but are they?

Basically.
From the man page:
The format of modprobe.conf is simple: one command per line, with blank lines and lines starting with # ignored (useful for adding comments). A \ at the end of a line causes it to continue on the next line, which makes the file a bit neater.
The syntax is a simplification of modules.conf

modules.conf is the file for kernel 2.4 (and 2.2)
modprobe.conf is the file for kernel 2.6
Please read the kernel documentation, the syntax in both files is not exactly the same in all cases.

modprobe.conf is the file for kernel 2.6
Is there a reason I should have both /etc/modules.conf and /etc/modprobe.conf?
My kernel is 2.4.22-1.2197.nptl

Yes, if you switch between the 2.4 and 2.6 series of kernels.
