You can do it another way:
1. Take the .config from Fedora (/boot/config-xxxx) as a starting
point, or create your own one
2. Download the latest kernel source from
kernel.org and extract it
3. Copy your .config into the root of the source-tree
4. make oldconfig
5. make
6. make modules_install
7. make install
8. Reboot
This kernel will live peacefully alongside with your existing Fedora
kernel(s).
well, sure, but that's definitely not equivalent to building from
the official fedora source rpm, which comes with red hat-supplied
patches.
