Have you tried a locate to find out whether this library is on your
machine ?
Example:
[dharshi]$ locate libcom
/usr/include/boost/config/stdlib/libcomo.hpp
/usr/lib/ooo-1.1/program/libcomphelp3gcc3.so
/usr/lib/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/libcomputer.so
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.6/components/libcomposer.so
/usr/lib/libcom_err.a
/usr/lib/libcom_err.so
/lib/libcom_err.so.2
/lib/libcom_err.so.2.1
/opt/mozilla/thunderbird-0.6/components/libcomposer.so
See if the file you are looking for is present. I don't have the file on
my system, so it may make sense to ask on the Courier mailing list if
you could just link the /usr/lib/libcom_err.so.2 to
/usr/lib/libcom_err.so.3 (this should be a really last last resort) or
check to see if there is a new version of this library on a repository
or if you are paying for RHN then check via up2date.
Cheers,
Aly.

Accpac on FC1 and FC2?
by Dr. Michael J. Chudobiak
Hi,
Can anyone share their experiences running "Accpac Advantage Series for
Linux" on Fedora Core 1 and 2? Are you using DB2, or something else as
the back end?
It's pretty clear that the Accpac for Linux client application runs
under Wine...
I'm running Accpac on a W2K server now, with Pervasive SQL, but
Pervasive is getting flaky on me, and all my other apps are on Fedora
now. I'd love to ditch Windows Terminal Server and use VNC instead!

Red Hat acquires AOL's Netscape server software

"the company spent less than $25 million on the acquisition."
"But open-source programmers already have an option when it comes to
open-source directory software: the OpenLDAP project that Red Hat

Wouldn't "less than $25 million" have been better spent on extending
OpenLDAP? They already support it, along with lots of other software
(e.g. Evolution ldap address books). Who knows what artifacts has the
old code.

Cvs on Fedora codepage problem
by Nicolas Fortin
Hi everybody,
I imported a project in my Cvs Repository. I tried to checkout this project with Cvs on Fedora 2.
The structure is ok, except that when a file or directory name contains an accented character, like those : "é","è", "ù", and so on ..., each of these characters are replaced by a question mark (?). Of course, it is now impossible to commit or update the modified files and directories.
On a Cvs forum, someone told me that it is maybe the client's ANSI codepage which is not the same than server. Since I am pretty new with Linux and Fedora, I don't know where to find this information.
Could you tell me where the codepage's details are located ? Is it possible to change it ?
I thought that codepage informations where in /etc/fstab but I am not sure. Anyway, here is my file system table :
-------------------------

XP+Core3=True?
by Erik Kjellqvist
Hi!
I've read some posts on the internet recently announcing problems with
dual-booting Feodora Core 2 (due to the Kernel 2.6) with Win Xp.
A solution (both prevention to make to not get the problem in the beginning
+ solution to problem) is reported here:
http://lwn.net/Articles/86835/
Anyone tested Feodora Core 3 - test 2? Is the problem still there? Anyone
working on this bug or do I have to stick to the above procedure forever if
I would like to install Fedora along with Win XP??
regards,
/Erik

RESOLVED [Fwd: Screaming Interrupt [Was: Post-logoff sound problems]]

All it took was switching the PCI slot the sound card was in. Yippee.

Hi Everybody,
Been trying to find a solution to this for a while. Using FC2 with a KDE
desktop. My sound works fine the first time I log in. Upon subsequent
logins, aRTs is running but does not accept sound to play (i.e. the play
button is pressed but nothing is happening). If using ALSA to play sound
directly (e.g. using XMMS and the ALSA plugin), it is trivial to make the
sound skip, where on the first login it was difficult. When I logout, I get
this from syslog:
Sep 26 15:39:22 Berdoo kernel: irq 11: nobody cared! (screaming interrupt?)
Sep 26 15:39:22 Berdoo kernel: irq 11: Please try booting with acpi=off and
report a bug
Sep 26 15:39:22 Berdoo kernel: Stack pointer is garbage, not printing trace
Sep 26 15:39:22 Berdoo kernel: handlers:
Sep 26 15:39:22 Berdoo kernel: [<42db33e1>] (snd_audiopci_interrupt+0x0/0x16a
[snd_ens1371])
Sep 26 15:39:22 Berdoo kernel: Disabling IRQ #11
I would be infinitely surprised if this was not related :)
I did boot with acpi=off (or at least I attempted to. I put acpi=off at the
end of the kernel command line in GRUB. That should do it, right?) but the
same message came up.
I saw a similar bug at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=126322 that was
apparantly fixed with a new kernel. I am running kernel-2.6.8-1.521 updated
via yum. The original kernel had the same problem.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have attempted booting with acpi=off and pci=noacpi as well as
changing just about everything in the BIOS that seems in any way
related. There does not seem to be a way to turn off ACPI in the BIOS
(No explicit ACPI = OFF setting, though I have turned off all power
management options). Should I try building a non ACPI enabled kernel?
I have also noticed that this problem happens when I _logoff_ KDE. If I
just go and kill the X process (which has the effect of logging out the
user, just not as 'cleanly'), then everything is fine. Something that
KDE is doing upon logoff is causing this problem. (I'm not saying it's
a KDE bug, since KDE does not have the power to unmap an interrupt, as
that is what seems to be happening).
Here is some /proc/interrupts output for those interested.

RH 8.0 upgrade to Fedora Core 2 - crashes
by Bryan C. Andregg
I am attempting to upgrade a Red Hat 8.0 system to Fedora Core 2 using
the install CD images from the website. The current system is a stock
install with most updates (until 8.0 was EOL'd) and very little or no
custom software or third party software installed.
During the upgrade everything works until the installer displays
"Preparing RPM Transaction" at which point the installer terminates and
the system shuts down. The upgrade log has plenty of detail about
upgrading dependancies followed by packages to be upgraded and ends
with:
The following packages were available in this version but NOT upgraded:
Upgrading comps-8.0-0.20020910.
The only other errors in the upgrade log all look like:
OMF file [/usr/share/omf/glade/turbo-start-C.omf] does not validate
against Scro
llKeeper-OMF DTD: /usr/share/xml/scrollkeeper/dtds/scrollkeeper-omf.dtd
Does anyone know why the installer is crashing and/or how to prevent
that from happening?
Cheers,

network woes with laptop and pc card ethernet
by Jeff Vian
I am having problems with networking on my laptop.
FC2 on a Dell Inspiron 5000 with PC card ethernet.
I have 2 different ethernet cards and the symptoms are the same with
both.
3C562B/3C563B dual network/modem card
3C589D 10base2/10baseT card.
On both the choice of network media depends on the dongle attached
(10baseT or 10base2)
I had no problems with the network interface when running redhat 9.
With FC2 it sees the device and loads the 3c589_cs module (I do not
remember which module was used with RH9) and properly configures it. I
am able to start the network. It links to my switch as 10Mbit full
duplex as indicated on the switch leds.
Here is the weird part.
Sometimes (intermittently) I am able to get out to other machines and
other times I cannot. When I do successfully connect it usually after
some period just stops communicating.
I thought possibly it was an issue with speed/duplexing so I tried
mii-tool to see what the parameters of the adapter were, but it tells me
there are no mii interfaces available. In fact the error message with
mii-tool is
"SIOCGMIIPHY on 'eth0' failed: Operation not supported
no MII interfaces found"
"route -n" properly shows me the routing, both network and default.
>From the laptop, ping to the adapter address works, ping to the default
gateway does not.
>From the other devices on my network everything works except pings to
the laptop address.
I am certain it is a "failure to communicate" between the pc card and
the switch, but I am at a loss on how to proceed.
My options seem to be:
1. get this (these) adapter(s) to work reliably (preferred) or
2. get a new adapter.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to identify/fix the problem since
mii-tool will not work for me?
TIA
Jeff

In order to get rid of the "init: open(/dev/pts/0)" error, running
"change_console -r" command should fix it. I've checked in the man page
that this resets the console file used by init to its compiled-in
default (usually /dev/console). In which file does this change take
place? I want to be able to roll back the change some day.
Juan
