ATI propriety driver: no 3D
by A.J. Bonnema
Hi all,
I've just installed the 64 kernel FC4 on my AMD Athlon 64 X2 with a Asus
AX800XL (which is a Radeon X800 card).
For a driver I used the propriety one from ATI so I could play
freedroidRPG (it needs 3D acceleration).
What happens is, the /var/log/Xorg.0.log shows the following messages:
(II) Loading sub module "fglrxdrm"

So, bottom line is, I have no 3D accelleration because the
/dev/dri/card0 is missing?
Or, is 3D hardware acceleration just not available for Radeon X800 cards?
If I start freedroidRPG anyway, it ends my X-session immediately
(really: a fraction of a second) and I am presented a logon screen......
Does anyone know what is wrong here?
Guus.

Re: Setting Up Linksys Wireless Internet with Fadora
by mindwave@cfl.rr.com
dont know anything about a key.
but i used this:
https://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/wlan/downloads-installer.php
in my laptop and it works like a charm.
its $20 but WELL worthwhile.
the ndiswrapper would load but i could never get it connected to my
network by manually configuring.
my time is worth a little more than $20.

Hello All,
I am trying to set up a wireless network in my house and one of the computers is running Fadora. I know absolutly nothing about the operating system and any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to know where exactly I enter the key so that the adapter can connect to the network.
Thanks in Advance

FC4 - Scanning with the hp psc 750
by Roger Grosswiler
hey,
after googling a lot and find some information about the hp psc750
scanning i remarked - mine doesn't
He prints, ok, but he doesn't scan.
Unfortunately, nowhere has been described, how they got their psc750
working. Do you have a hint for me?
Thanks,

FC4 - IBM e326 - network problems.
by Naoki
Hi all.
I have a networking problem here I'd like to share.
Cut down FC4 build on an IBM e326.
I am attempting to SCP 2.4MB of data to this box ( from anywhere the
results are the same ).
It connects, asks for password, which I give. And then after a few
packets I see it all go very ugly indeed. Throwing retransmissions and,
segment losts, and DUP ACK messages.
Which just kills the scp with a "Stalled" message. If I leave it then
_eventaully_ the file will transfer.
I've changed switches and have the same result. Starting to wonder if
there is a problem with the Broadcom ethernet controller? One of the
reasons I suspect the controller is performance jumps to normal (good)
after I reinitialise the card.

FC multi version install: re-using partitions
by David Niemi
Yes, generally a multi-version install has been covered just want to
know about re-using some of the partitions.
/dev/sdc2 7.6G 3.8G 3.5G 53% /
/dev/sdc1 145M 31M 107M 22% /boot
/dev/shm 1005M 0 1005M 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sdc7 9.7G 1.1G 8.1G 12% /home
/dev/sdc3 7.7G 2.5G 4.9G 34% /os2
/dev/sdc5 6.7G 938M 5.4G 15% /var
I've FC4 i386_x64 installed and for testing compilation would like to
install the regular i386 version. Reusing the swap partition should be
fine, install /boot onto the / partition instead of causing problems
with my main install. The /os2 partition is where I'm going to install
the other version.
Will it cause problems re-using /home and /var (probably problems with
the latter). I'll probably have to backup /home (cp -pR), install,
create user(s), login then out and then as root copy everything back.
Thanks

RE: Cheap way to practice clustering?
by James Montz
If you just want to play and learn with Failover, you don't have to have
a multi-host aware storage solution.
I have a couple of test servers setup, just using their local disk for
storage. I have setup several services (httpd, sendmail, imap, and
virtual IP) to fail over between the two servers, and has suited my
needs. And if you really wanted to test an external storage source, you
could use an NFS mount.
The only difference in a production environment will be the presence of
the storage system, and this is basically just handled by defining the
shared file system as a shared resource.

Subject: Cheap way to practice clustering?
Hi all -
I posted about using firewire for clustering practice a couple of days
ago. It turns out that this apparently requires a special, very
expensive firewire solution.
So I want to play around with clustering (as in high availability
clustering a la Red Hat Cluster Suite, not computational clustering) at
home so that I can become more proficient. The problem is, I don't want
to buy a multi-thousand dollar SAN for my house. I wanted to find a way
to do clustering on the cheap. I am not sure what path to take, so I am
going to toss it to the list to see if anyone has any suggestions. I am
totally open to older/used equipment.
>From what I've been told, I need a storage device which is multi-host
aware, so plain old firewire or even SCSI JBOD won't do. I've been
looking at the specs at
http://www.redhat.com/software/rha/cluster/hardware/.
I'm leaning towards VMWare at this point, but I'd rather do it for real
than in virtual machines.
Any pointers?
Thanks!

Hi,
