PHP/GD/MySql

Hi List,
I recently was looking into adding GD support to PHP on my FC3 install,
but couldn't entirely figure it out, and decided to wait until after I
upgraded to FC4. After having done this, I've found that PHP has also
been upgraded to 5.0.4, with mysql support no longer built in. So my
questions are, how do I add in both mysql and GD2?

Re: New D_BUS download

Hi;
Just updated D-BUS using yum. Now my evolution doesn't work and
evolution's mailing list is down while they move to gnome facilities.
I had evolution set up so that in my user2 I could su user1 and run
evolution from there. The why and the wherefore of that arrangement is
a long story. Nonetheless, it worked successfully for me for 6 weeks
but now I get the following error message:
Failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon: No reply wi thin specified time
4943: arguments to dbus_connection_get_data() were incorrect, assertion
"connection != NULL" failed in file dbus-connection.c line 4478.
This is normally a bug in some application using t he D-BUS library.

Slightly OT: Systems Admin Books

I got me a $20 Amazon gift certificate today and it is burning a hole in
my inbox. I would like to buy a good Linux Systems Administration book
and would welcome recommendations. I already bought the Linux in a
nutshell and was a little disappointed. It is a great command reference
but does not have enough details on networking, disk management, tuning
or really anything that is part of managing a Linux server. So, if you
any of you have any experience in this area, I would really appreciate
your advice in how to part with my $20(+) wisely.

OT: DNS Failover

I'm curious about how others in the Fedora community are doing DNS
failover. Specifically I have two sites, one primary (in a large city)
and one secondary (out in the middle of nowhere). The idea is that we'd
host DNS out of the secondary site to use the web servers in the primary
site.
My question is how are people handling outages at the main site. If the
primary site burns down or all the servers get stolen or something, is
my only option a manual of the configs to point from one to the other?

What does FC4.ppc use the iBook's little front light for??

There's a little round white light on the front of my G3 iBook, below
the keyboard, not even visible when it's off, that blinks about twice a
second, and makes some small noise as it does -- not noticeable across the
room, but *very* insistent if you're sitting at the machine. So much so,
in fact, that I imagine it has to be some sort of alarm.
Apparently different OSs put this light to different uses; I'm told Ubuntu
made it indicate hard drive activity -- and had to change that posthaste,
because there was a roaring chorus of complaints.
So what is Fedora trying to tell me? And why is it so intense about it?
(If it's anything less than that the machine is about to self-destruct,
physically, and maybe take me with it, I urge that it be changed.)

Setting Up Linksys Wireless Internet with Fadora

I am trying to set up a wireless network in my house and one of the computers is running Fadora. I know absolutly nothing about the operating system and any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to know where exactly I enter the key so that the adapter can connect to the network.

Update DNS from DHCP problem

Hi all,
Although this is RHEL related problem, I'm sure that someone here also can
help me.
I run DNS and DHCP on Red Hat ES v3, with all updates. I want to update DNS
tables from DHCP, so whenever client gets IP address from DHCP, it will
automatically add it to DNS.
Here is relevant part from named.conf:
zone "pmsl.sd" {
allow-update { 127.0.0.1; lan; };
type master;
file "pmsl.sd.zone";
};
zone "212.29.158.in-addr.arpa" {
allow-update { 127.0.0.1; lan; };
type master;
file "212.29.158.in-addr.arpa.zone";
};
lan is ACL for local network.
DHCP configuration:
ddns-update-style interim;
and in subnet part:
option domain-name-servers 158.29.212.26;
but still I have this message in logs (and of course, DNS is not updated):
Aug 30 08:38:56 pmsl dhcpd: Unable to add forward map from krtws024.pmsl.sd to
158.29.212.100: connection refused
Any idea ?

Please don't post HTML to the list, and this doesn't even come close to
what I'm looking to do. I know how master and slave DNS works, I'm less
concerned about the actual DNS server and more concerned about where the
DNS address is pointing to.

Its good to know that this isn't as simple an answer as it seems it
should be, I'll be testing the multiple A record possibility over the
next week or two, I'll post the results. From what I understand having
multiple A records can work in many occasions, but as far as DNS is
concerned it wasn't designed to do that.
