LCD brightness

Hi, I have HP nx5000 laptop with FC5(the FC5 is daily updatyed). The LCD is a bit dark, comparion with a LCD with a desktop, I wonder if this is the physical making or is there way to adjust the brightness? thanks Yuandan

CD's Won't Mount Under FC5

I just noticed that my CDs no longer mount with Kernel 2122. I'm using a NEC 3540A drive. It was working with FC5 for awhile, but I infrequently use CDs so unfortuately don't know exactly when it stopped working. The strange thing is that DVDs work just fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I loaded FC5 on another system using a Memorex CD and it worked just fine, but it wasn't a combo unit. When launching the CD Player, I get a Drive Error.

PDF files with Japanese fonts.. How to view?

Hi all, Xpdf and Evince both fail to correctly display PDF files with Japanese fonts. Is this a limitation of the apps or am I missing a particular font set (I have xorg-x11-fonts-misc.noarch fonts-japanese.noarch installed though) ? Any help appreciated. Cheers,

No, dmesg shows the link going up and down from me resetting it, but their aren't any error showing. FS cache hit rate.. How do I find it?

Howdy, I'm looking for a method of determining the cache hit rate for block IO (or indeed any hit rate numbers would be nice). Anybody know how I can pull this data from the system? note: There was an oracle patch (loadable kernel module) going around that does what I want but it's specific to oracle data files.

dell d820 volume keys

For what it is worth, I tried the ubuntu live cd and noticed that the volume special keys on my d820 worked. They do not work under FC5. Further investigation shows that FC5 does not have them enabled in gnome. To enable them + others, go System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts and highlight under the Sound area, the "Volume mute" and press the mute key. Do the same for "Volume up" & "Volume down" with the respective volume up/down keys.
