Fedora 9 Issues:
by Jeff Maxwell
I've upgraded to Fedora 9 and about the only thing that seems to run with any consistancy are the KDE applications. Third party programs, such as OpenOffice, will not run. FireFox runs sporatically in Gnome but not at all in KDE. Forget about Gnome applications - Evolution for example.
I have been using Evolution as my mail client/calendar/contact list and more for some time. It interfaces with OpenOffice by allowing it to generate labels using the contacts from Evolution.
Has Fedora abondoned support for Gnome? How about OpenOffice?
Or, is there something I am missing?
Thanks.

firefox and .ram files [F9]
by Joachim Backes
Hi,
if using firefox and clicking on some urls pointing to .ram files, I get
an error popup like:
/tmp/allfilms-1.ram could not be opened, because the associated helper
application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.
I couldn't find any advice how to solve this problem. In
/etc/mozpluggerrc I found the following entries:

Dropping Mac for Linux
by Kevin Kempter
Hi All;
I ran Linux as my main laptop OS for several years, then I got into a
mac shop and bought a macbook.
The macbook is ok but it just doesn't cut it per productivity so I've
ordered another laptop
(a 64bit laptop with 8G of memory expandable to 16G and 2 internal
320G 7200rpm drives)
I'll be loading Linux as soon as the machine arrives from Dell.
Here's my questions:
1) Is KDE4 stable enough for day2ay use ?
2) Does anyone know if Kpilot is working with Palm Centro phones ? Is
there a better solution besides Kpilot ?
3) Does Kmail support Exchange yet ?
4) Is there a way to migrate apple mail messages to Kmail ?
5) Is there a way to migrate apple address book and calendar events to
the KDE address book and calendar ?
Thanks in advance...

httpd access problems

All the files that are referenced in the 403 no perms are owned by the user I
must be in order to make cvs write access work. And that user is his own
group also.
Seems like the fix should be easy, but I'm used up. Help please?

display doesn't allow me to have my conf
by Zied Hamdi
Hi all,
I have a problem on my display: my display is configured as a 1920x1200 LCD
display. My graphic card supports that format :ATI Radeon Mobility X1400,
and is correctly configured and recognized too, but I'm unable to run under
my resolution: the best allowed one in system-config-display's combobox is
1600x1200.
Here's my xorg.conf that seams ok:

Any ideas are very welcome.

How can I check whether or not a blacklisted device command is causing a problem?
by Bruno Wolff III
I have a really old bug (163701) for a problem with my DVD/CD burner that
once upon a time used work with Fedora. Then for a while it would only
work after first erasing a CD until the next reboot. Now it no longer
burns CDs at all (but burning DVDs works).
The bug languishes (possiblly because it is hardware dependent and people
don't have that hardware and that isn't likely to change for the better
going forward) and one thing I thought of that might account for the
change in behavior is that wodim issues some commands that are being filtered
by the kernel. There aren't any log messages to that effect in the wodim
output, but I am not sure whether or not there would be.
Depending on the answer to that question, I can try some different things
to try to see if I can get the burner fully working again.

I have no problems with F9 after:
-removing the totem mozilla plugin
-installing the gecko-mediaplayer package from livna

Gallery2 installation, so where is it?
by Chris G
I just did:-
yum install gallery2
It installed with no errors.
The trouble is I now have no clue as to what to do next. What do I
have to do next, I can't see any *obvious* pages to browse to get it
going.
Yes, I do have apache installed and running, and PHP, and mySql.

Evolution Unmatched folder changed behaviour
by Simon Slater
G'day all,
This is to get info to understand why Evolution suddenly changed its
behaviour and fix an inconvenience. I am using F8 and Evolution 2.12.3.
Normally the Unmatched Search Folder contains only the emails not
included in other search folders.
Yesterday I created a couple more search folders to catch some new
sources of email, but now the Unmatched folder is filled with all emails
in all of the On This Computer folders. The Unmatched properties cannot
be changed. What did change and how do I correct it?
