static IP under F10
by Rafnews
Hi,
i have setup a static IP for my F10 computer (which will be use later as DB
server for test development).
therefore i modify the following 3 files:
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0
/etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/ifcfg-eth0
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
i setup my mask to 255.255.255.0 as usual and after i reboot F10.
after login as user, F10 as setup eth0 inactive. when i press the button
activate, eth0 is activated but the mask turns to my default gateway
address... and internet does not work.
where is the problem ?
i'm sure that this IP address is free and works if i use it on windows OS.
thx a lot.

F9: Vnc's desktop window prevents right-side toolbar access
by Dan Thurman
I noticed while doing a remote Vnc session that my Vnc
desktop is showing the right-side scrollbar covering my
right-side pop-out toolbar - thus preventing any access
to it.
Tried this in various window sizes and all performs the
same way.
Thanks

Disk Problems: Advice Welcome
by Richard Heck
I've been having some strange, but fairly predictable, problems with the
disks in my system. If disk activity is very heavy for a long
time---say, I'm downloading a lot of stuff---then, at some point, I
start to get disk errors and the system will all but freeze up. The
first sign is often an error from syslogd, saying it can't write to the
log, but I can also get similar errors from (e.g.) akregator, saying it
can't write to some file under $HOME. Other operations may continue to
function at this time: E.g., the download will continue, and I can even
start another one. But attempts to run commands can abort with
"Input/Output error"---though not all commands may show this problem.
This looks to me like some kind of hardware issue, but I'm not
experienced here. Any advice welcome, especially concerning what I might
do, other than replace the (expensive WD Raptor) disk.

how to play an audio cd?
by slamp slamp
is anyone successful in playing an audio cd? i insert an audio cd,
fedora 10 nicely asks what i want to do, i select open in rhythmbox
but it does nothing. i tried audacious but that does not play either.
sound juicer is able to play the audio cd but sound juicer is not an
audio player. ive replaced my xp desktop with fedora and loving it but
im surprised that something as simple as playing an audio cd is not
working for the 10th iteration of fedora. im a big fan of linux as a
whole and i can handle a bug like this but someone not as computer
literate as i am although im no expert would be turned away in an
instant.

Ok. I need a better education about kde functionality.
by Steven W. Orr
I'm looking at keyboard shortcuts and I have no idea what some of the
functions are. I don't see any documentation on it at all, so I suppose
this is the right place to ask.
* There's a function called "Switch to Screen $ii" for ii in 0 to 7.
What pray tell is a "screen". I know it's not a Desktop.
* I have a few effects turned on. What is Toggle Expose Effect and Toggle
Sharpen Effect? They don't seem to do anything obvious.
* I found some arrows that seem to be drawn with Meta+Shift+Ctrl. What is
that?
* And my last question (for tonight) is: What is an activity? I do
understand that kde4 is a work in progress and I am honored to be a
guinea pig, but when it's done, what will I be thrilled to be doing with it?
It seems like I can have a desktop with multiple widget configurations,
but is that a good thing?
TIA

New kernel detecting stability now?
by Tom Horsley
Just idle curiosity: I notice the latest kernel no longer
prints the boot time message about "failed to detect
stabilization, waiting 10 seconds".
Has nv_sata gotten better at figuring out disk status?
Or did they just stop printing the message? :-).

Gnash help
by Simon Slater
Merry Christmas All.
An urgent but not life-or-death question. I went to
http://rolexsydneyhobart.com/yacht_tracker.asp?key=522 to check the race
progress but the yacht tracker downloaded but doesn't run. Right
clicking shows it is using gnash. Where do I start looking?
I am using F8, gnash-0.8.2.3.fc8 and firefox 2.0.0.10. The race
finishes on Sunday morning, hence the urgency :). If someone can point
me in the right direction I'll start chasing it tomorrow. If someone
could verify that gnash works on this site, that would be a start. This
site worked with flash for last year's race, so I could always swap over
to that.

awesfx missing - can't load soundfonts
by potat0
I can't find the awesfx package for Fedora 10, and nothing in the Fedora or RPMFusion repositories provides the file "*/asfxload" or "*/sfxload"
These executables are REQUIRED for loading samples into an EMU10k soundcard's wavetable synth, and hence are required for hardware MIDI support.
Where did this package go? If I remember, Fedora 8 had it for instance. I've tried building it myself to no avail.
Does anyone know where I can find an x86_64 awesfx package for Fedora 10?
