Blocked port 25 activity -
by Bob Goodwin
This is an updated F-10 desktop computer, my ISP is a satellite service,
wildblue.net who quit providing mail servers and switched to gmail about
a year ago.
Recently I have been observing a continuous stream of blocked port 25
connections from this box 192.168.1.9 in the Firestarter log. The normal
SMTP port is 465. They appear to be directed at a google name server
although /etc/resolv.conf shows
[bobg@box9 ~]$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 208.67.220.220
nameserver 208.67.222.222
# nameserver 12/189.32.61
And I see the following logged:
/var/log/messages
Apr 30 07:14:09 localhost kernel: Outbound IN= OUT=eth0 SRC=192.168.1.9

I guess it's not hurting anything but I would feel better if I didn't
see all this activity apparently going nowhere. I don't know how to find
what's causing it, at least I haven't found it yet.
Any suggestions?

Application For Backing Up Blackberry Data To
by Robert L Cochran
Are there any Fedora-based software applications that will notice my
Blackberry 8830 when I plug in its USB cable on a Fedora system? Or
better yet, when I pair its Bluetooth to the laptop? I'd dearly love to
be able to back it up to my laptop, and I use Fedora just about 100% of
the time for the computing tasks I do for myself.
Thanks

How to find which disk a LUN is mapped to
by Paul Ward
Hi all,
I need to find out which disk LUN6 points to on my RH3 box.
I have looked at /proc/scsi/scsi
This gives me LUNS from 00 to 05
Does this mean 05 is infact LUN06?
If so where can I see where that device is then mapped to?
Thanks

fedora 10 installation not going ahead due to SATA driver related issues
by Abhijith Madhav
. I am trying to install fedora 10 on this laptop,
http://www.hclstore.in/hcl_leaptop_k38.html from a DVD drive.
. I get the following on the console after the installation starts.
I'm unable to capture them in their entirety as they scroll off in a
flash. Please note that the below is handwritten.
"

<stack trace>

After going ahead I get a TUI which prompts me for the media
containing the installation media. After I answer with a "CD/DVD" I
get a message box asking me to select the driver. The exact message is
"
Unable to find any devices of the type needed for this installation
type. Would you like to manually select your driver or use a driver
disk.
"
I then am prompted to select one of the innumerable drivers listed. I
am assuming here that I should pick a driver for my DVD drive.
Anyway, no matter which driver I pick up, the installation doesn't
move forward. Could you please help me with this issue.
Do let me know of any more details that would be needed. Also if you
could let me know the time(and timezone) you would be active I could
be online the same time so that I could get back to you with more
required information.
Thanks,
Abhijith

[OT] SSH login script - Help
by Dan Track
Hi Guys,
I've written a simple for loop see below:
for i in orion earth;do scp /etc/hosts /etc;done
I have a small scripting knowledge so would appreciate some help. What
I'd like to do is somehow change the above so that the script prompts
me for a password and when I give the script the password it will use
it to auto-reply to any password promtps that scp asks for when
logging into all the servers. If I am right I believe readline needs
to be used. If it can't be done in bash can you give me a perl
alternative please.
Thanks for your help.

Problems sending Emails
by Jim
FC10/KDE4.2/ Thunderbird
Sending Email Out to AOL.com.
When I send a Email to a person at AOL.com I get a email , Failure to
Send , Has anyone had problems like this ?
They say the reason they can't send is because of a "421 Error"
My ISP ATT says it's because of Thunderbird, So I just hung up on them.

[root@bootp dev]#
not much in here, most particularly no dev<<< arrgh typo meant "no root"

Re: f10livecd installs but wont boot, Error 2
by Jackson Byers
> mount: error mounting /dev/root on /sysroot as ext3: no such file or
directory
another piece of info:
it wasnt really clear what the system found missing
was it /dev/root or /sysroot?
with the f10liveinstall mounted on /f10liv as seen in my fc5:
[root@bootp dev]# pwd
/f10liv/dev
[root@bootp dev]# ls
fd fuse ptmx random stdin tty zero
full null pts stderr stdout urandom
[root@bootp dev]#
not much in here, most particularly no dev
/sysroot exists inside the initrd
and there is another /dev in there as well
but it also has no file root
[root@bootp dev]# pwd
/f10liv/root/clean/dev
[root@bootp dev]#
[root@bootp dev]# ls
console ptmx ram1 tty0 tty11 tty3 tty6 tty9 ttyS2
mapper ram systty tty1 tty12 tty4 tty7 ttyS0 ttyS3
null ram0 tty tty10 tty2 tty5 tty8 ttyS1 zero
so the f10liveinstall seems deficient, no /dev/root
unless there is yet another dev buried somewhere
any comments?
where else to look for /dev/root?

SCIM stopped working after close_to_latest (days ago) updates
by 9000 VAX
I use F10 daily with SCIM. Several days ago after I updated F10, I could no
longer bring out the SCIM input bar with the hot key (set to the default key
combination Ctrl-space). The SCIM icon, however, still shows up. Please take
a look what is wrong. Thank you!
